Spekter 3 Posted September 11, 2012 (edited) I was thinking that it would be cool for there to be survivor, and bandit too, compounds. Maybe 1 or 2 of each that are fortified with NPCs manning them. Say a camp where people could find help or directions. Of course they could be raided, but not easily. The camps could have medical people and vendors where you could barter weapons and what not for help and supplies. But on a very, very limited level. For instance, you could not go to the camp every time you needed food or ammo because they would not have very much or maybe you could only barter at the camp every 5 days. Put it on a cool down timer. Or perhaps the camps would only have items to barter once other players had bartered items. There would need to be a method the guards used to determine who was a bandit and who was not, but I have not put that much thought into it.As part of the game you could decide to become part of the compound and make supply runs into towns and such to get supplies for the camp/colony or just move through on your way to where ever you may be going.Edit* maybe separating bandits and survivors is a bad idea. Welcome everyone to the camps, but give the guards a "don't start any crap or we shoot" attitude. Still allow the camps to be raided though. ScottyTheEngineer 47 Posted September 11, 2012 I'm rather indifferent about that, but AFAIK rocket stated that there will be no NPCs in DayZ (besides zombies of course).
Spekter 3 Posted September 11, 2012 Yes, but I find it hard to believe that zombies have taken over and there are no pockets of survivors banding together for mutual survival. Just seems like a logical progression to me if we are going on the premise that apocalypse has occurred.
ScottyTheEngineer 47 Posted September 11, 2012 It would be cool if players were able to achieve that sandbox-style without NPCs. I think we'll see if it works when the (underground or not) bases are implemented. A couple of weeks ago some guys tried to establish a demiliterized zone in Elektro on some server, but AFAIK it turned into a disaster. Some bandits logged in and started shooting and since there is no way to distinguish one player from another, everyone started shooting at everyone else. If construction of fortifications and some sort of player identification (not nameplates) would be implemented and players would not be able to spawn in the fortification, this could actually work! sm00tje 88 Posted September 11, 2012 I like the idea, though I don't want DayZ to have something like currency or however to add a value to weapons, clothing and forth.Or perhaps the camps would only have items to barter once other players had bartered items.I hope you recognize the problem, 'cause this way noones gettin' items :) - someone has to start :>Besides that, I'm thinking of a place, where you can put items in and therfore get one out, or just donate it. Sure you couldn't trade a wood pile for a m4. But first off duping needs to be fixed.
indominator 95 Posted September 11, 2012 it would be cool if we could make these compounds with empty cargo stuff
