50cal Revamp; Make 'em rare again!

*This is a suggestion that should take place only after duping is fixed.

If its possible; all 50cal sniper rifles should be deleted from every piece of data in the main hive. 50cal loot spawns from heli crashes will be reduced to 1-2 per map.

Why? I really like these guns. They were a lot of fun to come across in the earlier days of DayZ, there were times I didn't mind getting killed by them because it was such a rarity. My heart used to pound everytime I'd try to take a shot with my first as50, because I didn't want to lose it. But now I know I can just search around for tents to find a bunch of them, or maybe a generous scripter will give me one. It just ruins the excitement now.

Why restrict spawns? Because they're way too damn common.. I found a total of 6 Heli crashes today. I have: 2 M107s, 3 AS50s, and 2 L85s. What's really wrong with this picture? One of the crashes I found had TWO AS50s and 1 L85! Ridiculous. This isn't even my first day looting heli crashes mind you, I've collected so many of these "rare" guns its no wonder there not so common anymore. Don't even get me started on how much 50cal/STANAG rounds I have now..

I think I've made a thread about this a about two months ago or so, but can't find it (it's not filed under my threads anymore...). One big problem (besides duping and hacking) is that there is no "sink", where items disappear. Even if duping was fixed and the chance of spawning for the high-tier weapons was drastically reduced, their numbers would be constantly increasing anyway. That's because items disappear because they despawn (no one picks them up until the server restarts), they're destroyed or due to bugs. Since everyone would pick up a super-rare, top tier gun and backpack bugs will be (hopefully) fixed some day, these guns would almost never disappear. I suggested to set a limit for weapon spawning for each server, depending on how many weapons of a certain type are already present on the server (including tents and vehicles).

We did a poll last week I think. About 60-70% of people on these forums have .50 caliber sniper rifles. It's not the drops that are the problem, it's the tents and storage that are the problem. If you decrease the loot drop, you'll just make people farm 5 times as long. And then they'll die and someone else who isn't farming will get their gun. And then the guy that just died will go back to his tent and get a new .50 caliber rifle.

You have to understand, this game has attracted an entire loot farming/server-hopping element into the game economy straight out of World of Warcraft and the like whose sole purpose is hoarding gear. This also means they can combat permadeath by gearing heavily and then farming hard while they have the arms and supply levels to do so with minimal risk. On the off chance that they are killed, they usually have enough supplies in reserve to immediately gear back to full. And while we complain about tents being found, no one person can carry a tent worth of equipment, so it's not like there's a danger of losing all of their loot. They just become a gear farm for other players.

As long as storage exists and there is nothing to limit the amount of spawned gear players can maintain on the server, as long as gear never goes away, the drop rate of loot won't really matter. The loot will still keep piling up and circulating around the servers.
