ericdude88 20 Posted June 13, 2012 Taking into account both PvP and zeds.I'm making a hard decision right now...I want to change the AR for a CZ because I've never tried sniping and It seems awesome, but I want to know if a pistol is REALLY good enough to fight off zeds because obviously the sniper is a terrible choice at that.So should I go with CZ (or any snper i come across) and a pistol (which one do you recommend? Have m1911) or the same AK-74 + M1911 combo?
demazi99 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Do you really need more than a 1911 to kill zeds? It should be enough. the revolver has more ammo tho, I usually take it.
Lopz 2 Posted June 13, 2012 I'm currently using a sniper and a PDW, because of the PDW magazines for zombies. Tho i might get a revolver or a M19 soon because of the stopping power...
ericdude88 20 Posted June 13, 2012 Yeah the thing is, I've had hordes of zombies on me before and my AK-74's full auto spray saved me in those situations..I could not imagine having only had a semi auto pistol with 7 rounds a clip to deal with such a horde.Though the PDW seems to be good for the situation, can anyone give me an idea of how well the PDW fares in comparison to AR's vs zombies?I'm currently using a sniper and a PDW' date=' because of the PDW magazines for zombies. lunakhod 8 Posted June 13, 2012 I just carry three guns. M4 primary, PDW secondary, and an M24 for specific circumstances in my backpack.
ericdude88 20 Posted June 13, 2012 Yeah but everytime I try to store a primary gun in my backpack it either disappears or refuses to get dropped/replaced when I try to take it out...
Lopz 2 Posted June 13, 2012 O..so the PDW sucks against zombos eh?Not really' date=' it's actually a great gun, great magazines and i usually just headshot them. But considering i'm holding a sniper, a good and versatile sideweapon would be an advantage over the PDW.....[hr']Yeah but everytime I try to store a primary gun in my backpack it either disappears or refuses to get dropped/replaced when I try to take it out...First thing. Primary takes 10 backpack slots. Secondary takes 5.Second thing. Make sure when switching weapons that you move the one stored to the inventory' date=' and not the other way around, or one of those will disappear.[hr']I might switch my Sniper to a M4 tho, i just gotta get lucky and find one. Although i love a good ol' sniper.
ericdude88 20 Posted June 13, 2012 Nah man I know how the switching weapons part works, but for some reason once I had an AR in my BP, then when I logged back in it disappeared...I've always known the slot rules and the rule that you can only take it out of the backpack into inventory, not the other way around. It just doesn't seem to save whichever weapon that was in my BP though when i log out.. Latros 1 Posted June 13, 2012 I carry three guns myself as well... I carry a AR, a Rifle and a Pistol. My fav set up is:-Any M4 or AK variation with minimum 4-6mags-DMR with minimum 2-3mags-Glock or 1911 minimum 6magsCurrently Im using:-M4A1-50cal/Barret or whatever its called in Arma dropped my DMR for it for shits n giggles.-GlockYou sacrifice alot of space to carry three weapons but its worth it to me, when im traveling overland I always have the sniper rifle out, if I move into a urban area or town or searching buildings the AR comes out.. If I need to crawl fast or quietly kill a Z the pistol comes out. Yes you sacrifice insain amounts of space in your bags but to each their own.. I do this rather then have to sacrifice my shortgame or longgame when its needed... its about survival and Id rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. solarsailor 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Any sniper rifle is quite bad at close-range PvP because it attracts a lot of zombies, and the optical sight can be inconvenient if the target is a few meters away. DMR is better than other snipers at close range because of its rate of fire (IRL it's not a real sniper rifle, it's a marksman rifle), but it's very loud anyway.Sniper rifles in DayZ can be used for two things: supporting your group at long range, and sniping random people, if you're a bandit and people-hater. If you are not going to do any of this, take the AR. Snipers are useless for defense of for killing zeds.
zak757 146 Posted June 13, 2012 DMR + PDW is easy mode. Kill players far, kill players close.

Lopz 2 Posted June 13, 2012 Latros, if you had to choose between keeping the Sniper or the M4, which one would you keep?Would the CCO in the M4 make a huge difference in your decision?
ericdude88 20 Posted June 13, 2012 Yeah what Lopz is asking ^^. I honestly don't want to kill my backpack space unless I get the 24 slot BP..
Latros 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Latros' date=' if you had to choose between keeping the Sniper or the M4, which one would you keep?Would the CCO in the M4 make a huge difference in your decision?[/quote']Depends on which rifle im using Ill keep a DMR over any AR, however any other rifle I would drop in a heartbeat for the CCO.... however ive never had much luck with SD ammo so I never really worry about or count on the CCO, Ive only ever found 1 of them anyhow *shrug* its all luck. SD weapons only have two real advantages.... keeping the Z agro down if moving through heavy Z area fast or if hunting players.*edit: yea I have the large backpack... if I dont have the large pack then I make a on the fly decision depending on what im doing or where im going.... Alice pack is quick to come by and with hunting supplies I usually just carry a couple things of meat and only 2 canteens and drink soda and eat cangoods as I come across rather I need them or not. There is always a water source/pond within a few minutes. Prioritizing pack space is hard... I am having a hard time right now as I have 3 frag nades and decided last night I did not need a 4th... also only carry 1 pain and 1 morph and 2 bandages... med supplies are in ample supply everywhere u go.Its all about what your current goals/mission is... I swapped my rifle 3 times last night due to boredom and a accident/bug... was going to swap my M4 for a FAL then my DMR disapeared so I had a M4 and a FAL then I came across another DMR 2 minutes laters... swapped out M4... then came across a 50cal not even a minute later so swapped out DMR for that then decided I wanted a M4 instead of my FAL since I had limited ammo for the 50... its never ending :)
Lopz 2 Posted June 13, 2012 Nope, i dont mean the SD version. Just CCO.Would you keep a non-SD CCO M4A1 over the DMR?
eddie820 2 Posted June 13, 2012 I've got the AK Kobra, M4 SD and a 1911. I have a ton of mags for the kobra and only one mag for the M4. If I were to find a sniper that isn't the CZ I'd get rid of the Kobra, which is a shame cause id have to leave it for no friends to take since none of my friends plays. Latros 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Nope' date=' i dont mean the SD version. Just CCO.Would you keep a non-SD CCO M4A1 over the DMR?[/quote']Your gonna get a different answer for that from every player probally.. depends... the M4 has more versatility however the DMR can double or tripple the range of the M4. These kinda questions are why I carry 3 weapons :) So i dont have to make this decision.
solarsailor 1 Posted June 13, 2012 If I were to find a sniper that isn't the CZ I'd get rid of the KobraActually, CZ is a full-featured sniper rifle in the right hands. It might be not so powerful at distances over ~500m, and it's bad at shooting running people (because the bullet velocity is lower than in military sniper rifles), but it's still quite decent. laszers 6 Posted June 13, 2012 why dont you guys just get the m14, stopping power of any sniper, semi-auto (in real life has full auto capabilities) assault rifle optics, as well as the accuracy of many other snipers, only thing it is really lacking is zoom, and if you have binocs then your set. qbert 4 Posted June 13, 2012 I've been able to out-snipe every self proclaimed "sniper" with an M4/AK47. Full auto is good in hairy situations, semi is good for long range engagements. Huge monitor and low sensitivity DPI button on my mouse combined with AR's have saved my life more times then I can count.

Though it's hilarious to prone after the bad ones miss a shot, and make them think you're dead. Then when they get close you pop up out of a bush and go "MOVE BITCH, GET OUT THE WAY" while unloading an AK into their chest.
solarsailor 1 Posted June 13, 2012 I've been able to out-snipe every self proclaimed "sniper" with an M4/AK47.Cool story bro. Call me when you could snipe 3 guys on top of Cherno factory in 3 hits with AK while standing on the Vysota radio tower (that's half a mile).why dont you guys just get the m14It's rare, it has no scope and DMR is better in every way.
