Gear lost, respawn without starting items

I've picked up ARMA2:CO just last week and have started playing DayZ after watching some awesome streams and video's. While my first attempts for the first few days resulted in me running around with loads of ammo, no food or guns, and 20 zombies on my six. I've improved recently, now making it to getting shot by campers in Elektro ;-)

I finally managed to get some gear, a Lee Enfield, M1014, and a M1911with plenty of ammo. An ALICE pack, hatchet, hunting knife, matches, water bottle and 12K blood, so I was ready to kill me some Zeds :)

But when I logged in today I immediately died and respawned on the debug plains. I knew this could happen sometimes, so I relogged and found myself back on the coast, but without a backpack, flashlight, bandage, or anything. Thinking it might be a glitch and hoping my gear would still be saved somewhere I restarted DayZ, back on the coast with no gear.

First of all, is there any way I can respawn with a backpack and the basics? Without a backpack this game is insanely hard (esp. for new players like me). Secondly, there probably is no way to get my previous gear back is there? Is there any way I can prevent (or work around) glitches like this?

Might have been bugging out or maybe it conflicted with a private hive? I've heard people getting character wipes connecting to one or randomly re-spawning with nothing. Bad luck ;\. The gear is more then likely gone and if you spawned without nothing it might be worth dying to try to get the basics. Quick way to gear up is a high pop server and running around in the Elektro / Cherno hills, doesn't work every time but usually there is a body or two..

Go back to the same server you logged into when you got debugged. Backtrack to the exact place you died and your body will be there. I've stumbled across two dead bodies of mine that I forgot about after a debugging. This is also the reason I only log out in "safe" areas where my body will be undisturbed until I can get back to it.

I know all about bad luck after playing HC mode in Diablo 2/3 forever and dealing with disconnects :)

But today I got lucky. I decided to hop back on the same server and run back to the other side of the map back to where I left the previous game. My body and gear was still there!

Thanks for the tips though, will try that on my (inevitable) next attempt :)

I had this bug, too... If there is "USERNAME was killed" on the side, just pres ALT+F4 as fast as you can... sometimes you have luck! At the first time I had, at the second time not, lost an M14, an GPS and a lot of ammo...

But thats DayZ, I won´t be so exiting if there were no bugs :-P
