x7steelers7x 1 Posted May 5, 2012 Now I don't know if this would be possible to do but I feel that hunting needs to have a little more of a challenge to it. By this I mean that it would be a little more interesting if the animals ran from you instead of just standing there as you walk up and shoot them in the head. It would be cool if you could startle them if you got to close or if you were being to loud or even if they heard your gunshot (only if it misses them of course). Maybe this would also give people something else to do aside from hunting other people. Thoughts?
oktyabr 53 Posted May 5, 2012 Animals in the Arma game are usually a bit more evasive. The rabbits can be quite a challenge in this mod... not sure why the other ones tend to hold still so much... they shouldn't.

I know that the hogs and cows don't really move or run at all. This might not be that big of a deal for cows but definitely hogs. It would be nice if they ran when they heard shots though.. Maybe a future optimization will cure it.
Stubbies 67 Posted May 7, 2012 Bump, also zombies should try and kill animals if they detect them too. What you gonna do when your chasing a deer and you find it 5 mins later with 5 zombies chewing on it :).Awesome!

kaibz 8 Posted May 13, 2012 Bump' date=' also zombies should try and kill animals if they detect them too.[/quote']Oh man that would be awsome!!! Just picture yourself walking in the forest and suddenly seeing a chicken being chased by 7 zombies.
masacrualex 6 Posted May 13, 2012 The animals as they are, are usually far away from zombie spawns so them meeting eachother is rare. Then again, animals by themselfs are hard to find, having zombies hunt them down would render finding animals to even a lower percentage. If I'm not mistaken, the animals in ARma 2 just don't tend to flee. They usually hold still and slowly walk around, it's a engine thing I assume. I never seen an animal run in arma 2 but the bunny.Imo this shouldn't be high priority at all, making the animals run wouldn't add a thing, you already pretty much get them from distance, having them run like crazy in a field, will just make you chase a bit, ending the same. Zero477 5 Posted May 13, 2012 You have a point, the sheep just stand there smiling while I fill them with rounds.
ratszo 2 Posted May 13, 2012 Grouse, Pheasant --have'em pop-up, fly away. Be great shotgun hunting. If you notice, we have the pop-up flutter sound clip in game now.

This makes it more of a challenge to really try and get your food. Plus if they would spawn in forests it would give you something to do there. I'm not too crazy about the zombies eating animals part but that would be cool if that was implemented too.

wolfmat 2 Posted May 24, 2012 I love it!Even more to the point: Animals become inverse zombies, and get speed factors by type.Type | Speed----------+------Zombie | 1Chicken | 0.2Cow | 0.3Boar | 0.4Sheep | 0.4Goat | 0.4Rabbit | 1.

Maybe increase the speed of the wildlife, or give them a bit more awareness so that if they were to hear a gun crack off, they sprint away. That would give the survivors of Chernarus another way to fulfill their needs in terms of amusement.

sunnz 24 Posted May 24, 2012 Cows, sheeps and goats literally do just stand in one place and east around that area for a while but they move when you get too close or when startled.

I've been able to walk right up to them plenty of times and shoot them.. What I'd love to see is animals in forests (along with plains, ect.) making it another valuable place to go in search of food. TheJackal_112 3 Posted June 13, 2012 Couldnt agree more with the initial post by x7Steelers7x - animals should get startled by being too close and should run away because of gunshots
MrBruns434 0 Posted June 13, 2012 I also agree, I ran straight up to a cow shot it directly once and it just stood there before the inevitable. At the moment hunting is a little too easy.
deepfried 95 Posted June 13, 2012 Less cows and sheep, plus add deer (which are very rare and behave like real deer and run if you get remotely close or start shooting). Thus the main form of hunting will be shooting rabbits and deer, which if done well could almost be a game by itself.

haviv[3rdid] 57 Posted June 14, 2012 I also agree' date=' I ran straight up to a cow shot it directly once and it just stood there before the inevitable. At the moment hunting is a little too easy.[/quote']Cows are very docile. And you know the phrase "like lambs to the slaughter"? It would be more fun if dayz ditched the cows and sheep and we had to hunt animals that would not only run but also fight back.
