how to save a game?

I didn't think it was possible due to a few posts but now after reading a few more I get the feeling that saving is possible. Can anyone explain if, and how, it is done?

Yeah, sorry if its a dumb question but I literally played for the first time today.

So I can store stuff in a tent but anytime I die and restart I have to go to that tent to get the stuff back right?

You can save items in tents and vehicles, however they are server based and if anyone comes across them they can loot them. Items on your character save to the hive and will go with you from server to server. Hope that helps.

Do I have to do anything to save to the hive or is it done automatically?

As The-Old said, your characters inventory and progress is saved automatically to the hive and is not server dependent. Tents have been bugged for a long time, apparently they save now properly, but they are bound to the one server where you pitched them.
