1337bobbarker 0 Posted September 7, 2012 Been playing DayZ for about a month now.I've started joining servers that have no population and are at night (generally people, once they realize its dark, log off) as it seems that everyone I run into wants to immediately shoot me in the face and take my stuff.I ran into one true "friendly," literally when I first started playing the game. Everyone else I've encountered has simply said this to mask their true intention of...wanting to shoot me in the face and take my stuff. This has turned into me, when someone joins the server and I don't leave, avoiding people by all means necessary.Granted, it's kind of an adrenaline rush when I see another player, but it would be nice to hail them and work our way towards Stary or something else. However, I don't take that chance anymore. I have friends that I play with, but they're not on all the time, which leaves me being a lonesome scavenger.I guess the point is, the current system of simply giving someone a Bandit skin so you know they're going to shoot you in the face doesn't really dissuade someone from shooting you in the face to begin with. There's no reward for grouping up with another player as whatever you might be headed towards, there's a good chance that your partner has a lot of that stuff you want already, and it's easier to shoot them in the face and take it.Maybe if server options could turn off FF, or have a harsher penalty for killing X amount of players (which could be adjusted by server for people who simply want to forego the simulation aspect of the game and want to run around shooting people in the face). I understand that there are still things being worked on, and I haven't delved far enough into the forums (3-4 pages) to see if this has been brought up already.Simply put, it would be truly great to join a server, and actually want to seek out other players to work towards a common goal. I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person who feels this way. However, I can't really talk to anyone else about it because I, simply, get shot in the face. starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted September 7, 2012 Has been discussed in lenght already and there won't be any non-pvp servers from the official side. What I recommend you to do is take a look at the private hive section and look for a whitelisted or well admin'ed server to play on. They usually have a lot of artificial rules in place to make sure shoot on sight is not a problem anymore. But be aware, if you play on a private hive you will be subject to the admins and they can abuse the shit out of their admin rights.

Lights Out 141 Posted September 8, 2012 (edited) You'll realize FF being turned off takes a serious element out of the game. As far as making punishments for killing, well no. No play style should be punished. This would be a real life risk during an apocalypse when there is no law to hold you accountable. Whether someone kills you out of fear of your own intentions, just to get what you have in order to survive, or just killing because you're not all there in the head are all viable, real world reasons.Every encounter is a risk and that's the way it should be. Increases the overall tension and fear in the game. When zombies become a higher threat it will further change the way the games played. If anything they need to implement something that makes character more unique and differentiates them. This would make them an asset in a group setting which will make surviving not necessarily easy, but more manageable. There have been many threads talking about doing this in a variety of ways. One being making people better at certain survival situations after being alive for an X amount of time and doing an action X amount of times. NOT A SKILL TREES, POINTS, OR PVP ADVANTAGES. I can't stress that enough. Also limiting the number of things you can be good at to lets say 1 or 2 max. This would give a reason to team up as you would want to have people good at a variety of things to make surviving more manageable. Is this definitely the way to do it? Maybe not but you get the point I'm trying to make. Surviving also needs to be a lot tougher because currently it isn't hard enough but there's more room for progress in the standalone, so that's complete other story. Going solo wouldn't be punished but it would be much tougher as it should be. Teaming up wouldn't be easy by any means, just more manageable, especially if in a tight spot with zombies closing in on you. However I can't stress it enough, killing, despite the reason needs to stay as it is. It's a vital part of the game and is a realistic, real world issue. Especially in an apocalyptic setting. Also realize that in the standalone, when duping is taken care of, all these high powered weapons won't be an issue. This will make killing everyone on sight much more difficult. Not to mention zombies are expected to be of a much higher threat, so firing your weapon as you wish will be quite a risk.
