ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Hello friendly neighborhood bandits. As well as those who lurk in the shadows. I come forth to greet you all. I'm a fairly new player to DayZ and I'm interested in learning the Tricks of the Trade for banditry. I'm new in the sense of playing the game itself. I've lurked the forums for quite some time now picking up things here and there but not enough to saite my thirst for knowledge as well as carnage. I've owned Arma 2 and Dayz for about a month now but was never able to run it on my garbage laptop. So like any other person whop wasn't happy with their situation, I changed it. I purchased a nice new desktop so i can switch from the Horrid console gaming universe and join the PC master race. So i hope you all welcome me with a few wise words and not the generic "Don't get attached to your gear". Thanks for your time and wisdom.

ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Dying is part of the game. I look forward to respawning and finding gear. From what experience i do have, Searching for gear after a respawn beats several hours in the forest running and enjoying the rabbits fornicating without asking me to join in. Xucphra 453 Posted September 7, 2012 The generalized banditry advice you commonly see is usually the best. Gather superior weaponry, wait near locations players frequently travel, ambush the players and steal their belongings. There's really nothing complicated about it. Shoot players and rob them.If you're referring to more sinister things like luring players into a spot where they feel safe, or pretending to be friendly so you can shoot them in the head when they turn around, then you're quite the sick bastard.
ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Thanks a lot for the Input i appreciate it.That's exactly the type of thing I'm looking to do. I am in the process of meticulously planning ways of finding and assassinating players. Killin someone isnt enough, anyone can do that. I want the players i kill to feel my wrath in the depths of their soul before i claim it.side note~ when I'm not hunting (something I will probably only do solo) I'd like to work with a small group of people for my day to day surviving. Even with music i fear this game will lose some of it's luster if i only play alone.

ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the wishes of luck. I raided the NE airfield last night and the Market in Krasnoztav(is that right?) I'm pretty much set in the fact i no longer need to enter a town again for supplies. I hit the factory on the way to the airfield and got myself a toolkit as well the basic survival tools. At the air control tower i picked up a M16 and a Remmington with a shotgun. That and a bunch of other stuff I looted in Electro are going towards my friend when he gets his PC near the end of the week. For him i found a spare hunting knife, matches, map, a couple of Epi-pens and blood bags. As well as some morphine. and the above mentioned shotgun. DrunkPunk 159 Posted September 7, 2012 ALWAYS use your free look to scan your horizons, never go out in the open without checking treelines, look for zombie spawns from far away (this indicates a player presence), keep cooked meat, 2 bandages and at least one (2 preferrably) morphine on you at all times, and never ask "friendly?" before opening fire.
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) 91 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) Here are my few words, Bandit? i hope you die! This is the Bandit thread.... quit trollin. To the OP. Yeah the basics are finding high traffic areas and killing quickly. If you get into a drawn out fire fight you'll attract to much attention. After your kill, relocate. If you stay stationary for to long someone will end up hunting you. Good luck man and happy hunting. Edited September 7, 2012 by Col. Kurtz
ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Thanks a lot @ Col. Kurtz and Drunk Punk. I have 6 bandages at the moment between my Alice pack(5) and my immediate inventory. is that too much? I try to keep 4 cooked meat at all times as well for sticky situations. Found a camping tent and i plan on finding a nice out of the way forest to place it in a cluster of trees. I'll use that as a a storage for the drops i get from kills. If all goes as planned (even thought things never do) I plan on having 4-5 tents total on the server i decide to officially inhabit. One tent in each part of the map in a hidden location. That way if things do get taken, I have back ups.
DrunkPunk 159 Posted September 7, 2012 6 isn't too much. I would go with less, but here is how I try to manage my loadout:Primary assault rifle (for mid-close range encounters), 6 magsSniper rifle, whichever I can find (for long range/sneaking, when i say whichever i can find, I pretty much mean m24/DMR/as50, I find the camo to not be so ideal for longer range due to the lower zoom) in the backpack, with 6 mags2 morphine, 2 backup bandages (i always keep 2 bandages readily available, so this would be an additional 2 in the backpack)4-6 cooked meat, 3 water/sodaAnd the rest, if I have any room left, I stock up with additional food/water. Sometimes more mags, if I think I'm going to be out for a while. It really depends. Also, one piece of advice I totally forgot to give. DEFINITELY give it some time before you go to loot any bodies. I can't count how many times I've just been caught up in the moment and started to loot a body, or started heading out in the field I killed someone in, just to find myself dead again. If it's in a field, scan constantly and give it some time after relocating to another good hiding spot. If it's in an urban area, hole yourself up and keep an eye on the door and pay close attention to the sounds around you. Once you are sure you're safe, loot away but keep your guard up. You are never safe in this game. Ever.
ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 Awesome, My Inventory/backpack is pretty much the same minus the sniper rifle. I'm keeping that shotgun in my Alice until my friend gets his desktop or I find a nicer weapon for him. I had 2 morphine injectors from the hospital in Electro, but sadly got my legs broken by a lost zombie randomly in the woods. I try to stay alert at all times, thanks for the advice on looting bodies. I'll definitely keep that one in mind.
JuRaii 4 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) I like to mess around with people before I kill them. Things to do as a slow/torture death that I've done.1. Find someone and aim for their legs to break it (usually they'll go unconscious) if you are on the ground you can drag their body to an open area near by before they wake up or just leave them there and throw a smoke grenade around them to attract all the nearby zombies to chew on them.2. Shoot a player let them go unconscious go back at least 20m from their body, take out your hatchet go in the crouch position and start chopping the ground walking up slowly towards them.3. Grab a decent assault rifle or sniper (CZ 550 something worth low value to you) place it on the ground near a door where there's high traffic of players (school/grocery store/fire station) and just go back a few meters hidden but looking at the item you drop for people to try and grab. NOTE: you can just clear out the location and drop everything that was in the building infront of the entrance or door way.4. Get some sandbags/barbed wire/tents and place them infront of door ways so people have to try to jump over it. Easy shot since they'll try to jump over it which gives you about 2 secs to take aim and fire. There's so much more I've done but I'll save those for later. When people SHOUT "FRIENDLY FRIENDLY I"M FRIENDLY!" I just yell back "Yeah I know but I'm a BANDIT" Edited September 7, 2012 by JuRaii
Col. Kurtz (DayZ) 91 Posted September 7, 2012 I would say the biggest thing to being a bandit is knowing when to shoot and when not to. As odd is it may seem, there are times when you should just let prey go. If you can get good at figuring out when to shoot and when not to, you will do well. If you're gona use a tent, pack food in it and only take a can or 2 when hunting. Chances are you will find food on your prey and you don't want to pack your ruck with food and 0 loot.

ChocoboDoom 4 Posted September 7, 2012 (edited) That hatchet idea sounds fascinating. Something that just entered my list. I'm going to be in the business of stalking players. I'm going to try to avoid high traffic areas for the sole fact that it won't be fun enough. From what i can tell, people hitting high traffic cities are either players without much to lose, or those hunting them. I wont enjoy the sport of it enough i fear.Edit:@Col. Kurtz Can you describe what you mean? Do you mean like timing your shots to adjust for recoil? or like knowing the perfect moment to take him out unsuspectingly? JuRaii 4 Posted September 7, 2012 in those instances, i prefer to let my rifle do the talking for meUsually when they yell that is when they're on the ground bleeding with a broke leg and by the time I finish saying the BANDIT part my bullet would've killed them. I would say the biggest thing to being a bandit is knowing when to shoot and when not to. As odd is it may seem, there are times when you should just let prey go. Chances are you will find food on your prey and you don't want to pack your ruck with food and 0 loot.and YES if you see someone and just shoot and miss you're giving away your position to not only that player you are trying to shoot but others near the area. And then you might have to change positions because zombies coming at you or players. Don't be TRIGGER HAPPY I usually wait till I'm certain I can get my 1-2 shots in to take them out then I got for it and always plan ahead ( if you shoot where can you hide because of zombies or escape routes incase someone is shooting back at you) Some players won't sit still and just keep running and won't take their time to try to loot small basic items. XxodgamingxX 8 Posted September 7, 2012 right man well if you feel like ruining their souls and shoving them into an eternal abyss play sounds through your mic and fire shots to scare players then finish them but you may loose to dc'ers

If you cant make the shot just don't do it. All you will do is scare off prey and broadcast your hide to everyone. I also try to kill people leaving town. Players don't run to a town because there pack is full. They go to gather supplies. Shoot them on the exit and you know they are more likely to have a full pack. Another time not to shoot: You see 4 guys running in a pack. If you can't kill all 4 fast enough they will maneuver to kill you. Edited September 7, 2012 by Col.
