Do you rely on the "Debug Menu"?

Recommended Posts

Something that has been on my mind for awhile and only just got the motivation to made a thread about it.

I don't think I've seen anyone acknowledge the fact that the little brown menu in the top right of the DayZ UI labelled "Debug Menu" is just that. For debugging purposes. Which implies heavily that this "feature" will not be visible in the finished standalone version of the game.

Do you think not having these numerical readouts will change your experience much, if at all? Will not knowing if you're below 8000 blood increase your anxiety within the game? What do you think will happen?

As long as I can see my blood, humanity, and maybe zombie count later on in the future as a GUI then no worries if it goes away.

Hmm I actually do rely on the debug monitor at some times. For example blood. and before it was removed temperature as well (even if someone with 42C would be in real bad shape) .

I also check it if i get bandit/murder kills as well. However I caught myself yesterday checking the "zombies alive/dead" readout. Why? because i was in the woods and heading towards a small town. I knew there where about 10 other players around. The readout said "0/0" so i knew they where not in the city's/village's. Or when there's only 2 other players and the readout says "3/3" then you know at least one of them is at something like a deerstand.

I wouldn't mind when it would be removed. Because I'm sure other players use it like this all the time.

Blood is shown by the colour of the droplet icon. Humanity used to be an icon, but looks as though he might be making this a hidden value. And being able to see zombie count on a server doesn't make sense in a live game, so no to this. I don't think we will be able to see numerical values by release.

I do, because when it randomly disappears I can't enter a vehicle, access a tent, eat or drink anything. I get what you mean though.

Honestly? I look at humanity, blood, and kills.

I think there should always be a way of knowing your zombie kills because hey, it's fun. the blood icon will have to be more intuitive if I have to rely on it, I'm red-green colour blind. I need a number as at the moment i can only tell if im low, or on plenty.

To confirm kills.

I guess in the standalone, ALT-F4'ing will be fixed though, so if you hit someone, It'll be a kill.

Having to rely on colors or faces is not really great in this game due to the colors are slightly different shades at times. If they added a % bar under the images for these items that would help out and the debug would be not needed.

Even though this strictly isn't a suggestion thread (I'm looking for opinions on what happens after its gone, not suggestions on what should be added without it). I think that this opens more opportunities for useful tools to be put into the game.

Such as, if he does end up doing "classes" (people who are specialised at certain tasks in game) medics could have a blood pressure cuff and actually be able to read how much blood you have/need.

i think the removal of the debug is a good idea, a confirmed kill is going to be harder to identify and knowing how much blood you are on will take experience to learn, everything else your player needs to know is on the icons on bot right

I use everything in the Debug Monitor because it's there, I think Rocket should just add all of these things to the Journal. Then we'd be able to effectively check our blood, temperature and such without just throwing in unneeded UI. Well, we don't need the zombie counter or kill counter in there... but yeah.

I hate the debug monitor. It gets in the way and takes up too much screen. Plus I have to play the game at a far lower resolution than I want to, because if I bump it up any higher, there is no combination of 3D and UI resolution that won't cause the debug monitor to cover up the color coded UI elements. I just want the option to disable it entirely... don't care if other people use it, I just want the choice to make it go away.

I hope its not in game even tho I use it obviously(I mean its there...) because it breaks immersion. Id rather have a few icons at the way top of the screen that go from Green-yellow-red. As the icons are right now I wish it was a bit more obvious instead of bright green to dark red.

I do look at humanity, but only because its there. Speaking of that, on issue I ran into yesterday...hero humanity trolls.

Some dude in Cherno or Elektro...cant remember which, shot me in the leg(I was newly spawned and unarmed) then I assume searched my pack as I lie there passing out. Then transfused me, morphine'd me, told me to leave then shot me again, only to repeat the process 3 times in total. I basically was helpless and for something really stupid. A number in the debug menu.

Oh wow, I go away for a few hours, come back and theres a patch where you can switch the debug off.

Well there you go, ask and ye shall receive lol. Can't wait to check it out, might be good to give server owners an option to force it off.

Oh and those few hours inbetween I was watching some shit about time travel and predicting the future and whatnot. :|
