looking for some instructions ...

first i would like to say that i am from germany and hopefuly my english is good enough for beeing understand and getting some hints from the community.

two days ago i noticed that "day z" exists and i instantly loved it. i just want to make sure that nothing will go wrong and to have a chance for most possible fun. i already have use the search function integrated in that forum and got some really helpful hints but there are still some questions left where you could help me.

#1: Which version of Arma II do i exactly need? On Wikipedia it is written "ARMA 2: Combined Operations" on "dayzmod.com" i read something about "Arma 2 + Operation Arrowhead" ... so i am a bit confused.

#2: What is about the equipment (called "gear" i guess) when i leave the server. I dont mean the equipment i have equiped, i mean the stuff which (for example) i hide in a forrest to get it later on. When i disconnect from a server will it disappear?

#3: What are tents for? I have heard from a "let's play day z" on YouTube that you can not interact with tents from other player. It that correct? Are tents immune against beeing raided? Is this a kind of a "saftey point" for you stuff?

#4: In case (#2:) that my equipment, which i hide in a forrest, is saved after i have logged out, what happens if the server i rebooted during a failure or maintenance?

I guess this are the only things i need to know to get a good start into this amazing world. thank you in advance for your help.

#1: You need Arma 2 and Operation arrowhead :) You can get everything by buying Arma x (anniversary edition)

#2: Anything you find or want to keep needs saved in your inventory, tent or vehicle - Anywhere else can and will go missing

#3: Tents store items you want to keep but can't carry because your inventory is full or to retrive later when you die/respawn, Tents can be seen by all players on the server so they can be raided or destroyed. They are also quite buggy and are not guaranteed to work everytime

#4: Everything you have on you can be carried to another server, tents and vehicles are only saved on the server you use them on. If a tent or vehicle saved correctly it will be there after a server reboots but as mentioned above it's not guaranteed as they have bugs

Best way to find out is to play and learn as you go :) have fun and watch out for bandits and hackers

sorry@richie for asking again / let this confirm. but i really do not want to spend money in the wrong version / game

p.s. in addition to this i have read about "arma2free + OP Arrowhead" + "dayz" will run fine too, chan anyone confirm this?

Yes you need arma 2 and operation arrowhead.

If you have steam, the bundle is called Combined ops on the store page.

You can buy the steam version or retail, it makes no difference to the mod.

Arma2Free and OA together will run DayZ but you will have lower quality textures and sound because the free version is a smaller download. It works fine though.

The simplest way is just to buy Arma Combined Ops or Arma X. They have everything you need.

On top of what other people have said you should know a couple of things before you buy ARMA II just to play DayZ...

The mod is currently in the ALPHA stage of development. It's a lot of fun but it is buggy, so you should expect for things to go wrong while playing e.g. losing items or even dying because of a bug.

We are currently having problems with hackers. They can spawn in any items they want, use God mode, even just use a 'kill' command to kill players without even seeing them.

As long as you are prepared for these things and don't let them get to you the mod is a lot of fun. Good luck and enjoy the game.
