deciphering log coordinates

Recommended Posts

Will someone please help me to understand how to read these coordinates from a log entry?

GrenadeHandTimedWest" 155:382 155:355 [6597,2610,26] [4,5,-3]

thanks

Hey mate, it's an East/West, North/South coordinate from the bottom left corner of the map (North/South is reverse).

Hence 6597 = grid # 6 and 2610 = grid #12 E.g Somewhere in Cherno

?I think that's correct. Gimmie some beans.

Pretty sure that's wrong. I thought the coordinates were exact? If you zoom in that doesnt work.

I too would like to know how this works.

I have to agree with CrackerJack and go with Cherno, From what i've seen of the coords, the bottom left of the map is 0 0 (Refer to this map http://dayzdb.com/map#3.038.123) and 6000 across is less than half way across.

I would say they are on a building in Cherno since the last number is the Z coord (how high they are above sea level) so it suggests they are on a hill or on the top of a building. Looks like they are on the top of the hospital (near the military camp) since the Cherno bus is very close to there coordinates but more to the left and slightly more north.

I wonder why you would be interested in coordinates anyway......oh,right.Must be a feature that admins have and isnt being abused.

Yes, because 2 days after he finds and decodes these logs, he's going to kill the guy who was there 2 days ago.

It's simple. When you have a full server of players with several of them using bypasses, teleporting, and creating shit out of thin air you need a way to pin player A to incident B to be sure you are banning the correct person. Killing someone doesn't interest me. Banning them for cheating does.

He's talking about tents - if you think the admin is abusing it, go somewhere else.

I'm not %100 sure grid coordinates are useful for an abusive admin.

What they are useful for, seeing when someone loots in cherno, then NW airfield 10 minutes later.

Ive found that the first Y coordinate is basically exactly or close to what grid theyre in, and the 2nd is opposite since the bottom grid starts at the highest number and goes top to bottom from 0. So the farthest grid down is 152, so you take 152 and subtract the first 2-3 numbers (1000 is 2 numbers 10000 is 3) and you have within a grid of where they are. So 2525.xx, 8245.xx = somewhere at 025 070.

Bingo.

Very easy to spot a teleporter this way. That is, if you are suspicious of this person's activities beforehand.

You can estimate the average speed from point A to point B, assuming they travel in a straight line:

square root of [ (difference in x)² + (difference in y)² ] this is the straight line distance

Then, simply divide by the number of seconds between those entries and multiply by 3.6

Your answer is in Km/h.

Example using these two entries:

16:25:18 : [information] Method: 201 Params: 35999331:[89,[6063.36,10867.5,0.001]

16:26:35 : [information] Method: 201 Params: 35999331:[114,[7050.45,10528.7,0.001]

(difference in X)² = (7050-6063)² = 974169

(difference in Y)² = (10528-10867)² = 114921

add those together and take the square root = 1043.6 (this is the straightline distance in meters)

divide by the time in seconds between those two entries (77)

This guy was moving at least 13.5 m/sec (multiply by 3.6 for Km/h) or 49 Km/h.

When you come up with something 300+ over a large distance, obviously the guy is teleporting.

[6597,2610,26]

[Xnum,Ynum,Znum]

X = Xnum / 100

Y = 154 - (Ynum / 100)

Z = Znum

X = 65.97

Y = 127,9

Hope it helps :beans:
