Question for ARMA players

Recommended Posts

Im a little confused. I never played AMRA, but my impression was that it was predominantly a PvP game. But I keep seeing/hearing comments and now Ive seen Rocket comparing DayZ to ARMA and saying DayZ is much more PvP focussed than ARMA. It doesn't make sense to me, why is ARMA less PvP based than DayZ?

AI isn't part of PvP.

Unless you're talking about the multiplayer.

Then yes, you're completely correct. Have beans.

When Arma2 first came out, and there was a lot of people online, then PvP was very popular.

As the online community shrank however, it became almost exclusively Coop, aside from arranged Team v Team battles within organized Arma communities.

The other online mode that's always been somewhat popular is CTI - Capture The Island. Which is Team v Team, but every human player receives income from bases (like in an RTS), which they can use to purchase a squad of AI characters... which kind of makes it a Coop vs Coop FPSRTS.

Lately, there's some awesome missions such as Insurgency, which are a hybrid of Coop and PvP -- where one team is all players, and the other team is players + AI.

Unless you're talking about the multiplayer.

Then yes, you're completely correct. Have beans.

Of course he's talking about MP if he's using phrases like "PvP". Though, as above, he's not correct -- online, Coop is more popular than PvP. Edited by ActionMan

Most people don't play the PvP side of ArmA. I used to play it a lot but there are always a crapload more people in the PvE servers. I think it is mostly because you can do more with vehicle and weapons in PvE servers. Just more availability for everything.

somewhat irrelevant, you should try out normal Arma II.

It's great.
