Finally Lost My Spirit in the Game

Recommended Posts

I've hit my saturation point with the game. My spirit broken. Disenchantment complete.

I'm not asking for pity, sympathy, none of that. I'm just sharing the last notes of my story with Day Z.

Long Story Short: Over many in-game lives, I worked to get my favorite gear, ample survival supplies, most of the in-game tools, set up a private base at a prime location, and risked my digital life to find and repair a vehicle legitimately (not relying on hackers making every vehicle spawn). I even had a Mountain Dew I found in the wild (regular item spawn). I didn't drink it, just kept it as a badge of honor. I endured all the game flaws, even outlasted all my friends' tolerances for the game. It became lonely, but still satisfying to be self-sufficient.

So, I'm taking my new vehicle further north. I decide to see if I can find a slightly better off-road vehicle. I park it in the woods far enough away so items spawn properly. I find the better vehicle and check what's needed to fix it. I head back for my current vehicle. It's gone.

I run back and forth thinking I might have just ran past it. Nope. It's not marked on my map anywhere. I'm stranded so far away with just my basic supplies and favorite weapons. I've decided my time in Day Z is done. I trek straight back to my base. I throw every piece of gear I have into my 2 tents (backpack and all), sit myself down, look into the sky, and disconnect for the last time. It had been thundering and turning to dusk in-game as I made my way back too. Kind of a perfect ending.

It's comes down to the point where I can't stand putting in so much effort for so little payoff. I barely had the vehicle for an hour. I've spent weeks trying to find and get a vehicle going. Basically the whole time I've been playing.

I know the game has that kind of balance, where things don't last long. Don't get attached to your gear is Rule #1 in this game. Well, that's how I measured my progress. I'm not entertained anymore. I'm not knocking the game, I still had fun with Day Z while I could. I knew I was reaching this point. I'll give the stand-alone a shot when that is finally released.

If you want my gear, it's on US1721. Enjoy it while you can!

pffft, I didn't even get my car stolen, I just accidentally saved it and it disappeared on server restart. whoops. so long 2 Mk48 Mod Os, 2x L85, 1 CCO SD, heaps of ammo, spare camos etc etc etc. Guess I'll just have to go steal more :)

If your vehicle was stolen, then its kinda fair game if you ask me.

If it was eaten by server restart then it would be more of a pain.

Anyway see you in standalone, let's hope that it will be polished a lot more then mod is.

edit: your story brings up memory when me and 2 other buds saw some guys parking their car (white pickup) near NW airfield. We hid in bushes and waited for them.....but those rascals came back from different direction then we expected and killed me and my bud, our surviving sniper cowardly ran away.

Perfect ambush going hillariously bad :-D.

Every game has it's useful life span and plenty of people will reach their saturation point and move on to greener pastures before it's even done. That's how games have always been and will always be. It's good that you enjoyed yourself for the time you had and hopefully it wont be long until you find your next go-to game...

I've lost so many vehicles near the ural spawn I've lost count. My offroad pickup hurt the most, give lingor a try before leaving for good. It is more casual playing legit since there are military spawns all over the map.

Vehicles in DayZ are hard to conceal, temperamental and scripters can summon them all to their location at any moment. The first day I found a vehicle I want on to find a heli and a bus hours later by using it. I then promptly crashed the chopper due to misjudging how much gas was needed, returned to my ATV and flipped it within 60 seconds. Then I tried to take the bus only to get it wedged solidly between two barricades in a major city.

I found a car yesterday and fixed it up entirely, hid it well and today the server is offline for some mysterious reason. Easy come, easy go.

Do not get attached to your gear. The funny thing is the more you lose stuff the harder you have to work to find more gear and in turn the better you get at attaining gear. If you stick with it you will soon be up to your balls in guns and rides. The only way you can really fail to be is by staying in Cherno or Elektro all the time.

OP is actually not crying, not rage quitting and not being a loser.

Forum still tries to troll.

Sad.

Beans for OP, sad to see you go.

I've found I can have as much fun as a fresh spawn along the coast as I do fully geared up... The only thing now is I'm just bored of Chernarus, which is mainly due to being familiar with it from playing arma2 for three years or so.

I am going to try out Lingor for a bit then just wait for the standalone, or see if someone does Isla Duala or some other map. I just ordered Fallout New Vegas with all the dlc so that will keep me going for a while as well.

I've been losing my spirit more and more. At first hackers didn't bother me too much because they never his my body of they killed me, so I could always run back to get it. Idc about stats anymore, but not they are trying to piss people off even more. I had somebody artillery the church in Cherno just for me, destroyed it and I died. Got my body back though. 3 of my friends and me were in a bus going down to kamorovo from the north, random as50 shot kills me and my friends dc and the bus lows up. No reason anybody should of been there especially with an as50 so we assumed hacker. Well I tried to go back for my body, got teleported and died along a few other ransoms in the server. Still, finally got back to my body and he hid it. That is what pisses me off. Kill me, w/e, but hide my body as a hacker? Ultimate troll. :(. Playing with a bigger group increases chance of hackers killing u is my final conclusion.

Come back for Standalone :) The game is very tiresome now but things will hopefully improve after that. Theres no other games worth playing now. If WarZ comes out before the standalone I might take a break from DayZ give that a go for a while until standalone comes.

Happened with me once. I was driving my ATV, stopped by a gas station. Saved the vehicle (everytime I get out of it) and went for the gas tank. Back in less than a minute... the ATV was gone. It was 5m from me and disappeared. I don't know if it was a bug or some script kid, but I got really disappointed.

My chars live long enough... at least until the weekends, when the servers get flooded with "hackers" that trash the game. After all we go through to get our stuff neat... I feel your pain. If I had the strength in me, I would wait until the next update or the stand alone. But I need my diary DayZ fix to survive.

I've heard nothings saving properly at the moment, that might be your problem. Regardless, sucks that you lost your vehicle to a bug but hey, one of my favourite things about the game is just walking through the country side. I'd probably lose all interest if I had a vehicle for too long (although I am keen to take a heli for a joy ride along the coast).

I'd say most bandits get their kicks off of coast sniping.

You're an arse.

@OP

Kind of in the same place - nothing really to do anymore. In that respect I played Arma OA and had a great time, it really is a good game.

Ya, but we weren't even on the coast yet. The guy had to of teleported, shot me, then shot the bus. We had a lot of gear in the bus, but didn't really care as we were geared up anyways. So all in all, only I lost my gear, but server hopped, found tents and got everything back again. So it's w/e. Sorry for horrible spelling on last post, was using my iphone and such.

Who are you to say he's not a real DayZ player? Looks like you came in on the bandwagon late to the game. Some of us have been around since the begining and are getting tired of the game getting worse with every patch. I'm pretty sure the server ate his ride. I've had several disappear the same way since the last patch. I haven't touched this god awful thing since last week.

LOL, you're right! I totally didn't "play" this "game" for rElz.

I do understand what Day Z is about. I was able to play with and around those principles. The game had gotten the better of me on a couple other occasions and quitting didn't cross my mind. I've simply had my fill for now and I told you where my breaking point was.

Honestly, it's not the car stealing part that bothers me. It was that it was just as likely to have been teleported by a hacker or eaten by bugs that made me hit the wall. If I could know for a fact that my vehicle was stolen by player legimately, I would hunt that player down and reclaim what was mine.

Plus, I knew where another vehicle was and I could have spent the time repairing it as well. The car stolen from me was already the second vehicle I had tried to repair. I already knew it wasn't worth fixing vehicles because they don't last for a number of reasons.

You sir/mam are the unreal player. But you are a real jerk. Good day!

Thanks for all the well wishes from those of you who had something unjerky to say. Like I previously wrote, this isn't about getting sympathy, just sharing my story.

My forum name and in-game are the same so you can look for me. Even if you're a bandit player, it's cool. I played for PVE, so I'd only shoot in self defense. I've had chances to kill players before, but I figure it's funnier to watch Z's eat them than waste my bullets.

I've got plenty of other games to play. It's a good thing I finally hit this wall because Day Z really had consumed my free time for a few weeks. Hopefully it will be even more fun once the stand-alone alpha drops.
