Crazy Team Members, post your favourites!

Got anyone on your team who is fun to play with but can be a real liability? Be interested to know your experiences.

After yesterday's experience with my buddy on NW airfield I felt I had to post.

So we head to the airfield, almost totally out of ammo we make for the eastern barracks. Maybe 10 shots between us.

My buddy goes in first and expresses delight in finding a DMR and a single clip. Not bad find so its all good. I move up check the rest of the side rooms, pretty bare and no ammo present.

Then it began - BOOM. My team mate lets the DMR rip at the entrance to the barracks. Well folks you know what comes next. The entire zed population descends on the barracks. "Whooaaahh stop it dude" I roar to him on voice chat. Too late, BOOM BOOM BOOM. Of course he runs out of ammo quickly and we are both trapped at the back of the barracks with zero ammo.

He panics and attempts to crawl, jump and barge past the horde. Unbelievably he makes it out and runs to the 2 layer workshop just south of the barracks. I consider doing what he did but don't fancy it much! The horde advances pushing me back to the final room in the barracks, like a scene out of Day of the Dead. I let rip my last few pistol rounds and end a few, but its a drop in the ocean. Considered saving one round for myself like in the movie!

Then without doubt the most fortunate thing that has happened to me in Dayz played out. An M240 with 2 x 100 round boxes spawns in my room. At this point Zeds are at the door. A few fumbling mouse clicks later and the bad boy is ready for payback.

Barely hitting the mouse button I get it down to pretty much single shot mode and start laying waste. 5 mins later I am clear and breathe a big sigh of relief.

My buddy then moves into his next adventure. "Trapped upstairs in the workshop, gonna have to jump!"

Damn, not more grief. I sprint down to the workshop to find zombs feeding on an unconcious team mate with a broken leg!

I let rip again and clear the area out. Quick morphine bandage, morphine and blood bag AND pain killers and he is good.

At this point I am thinking we cut our losses, well M240 gained and living ain't so bad. But hell no, he want to see if there is any DMR ammo at the SW barracks. So I say I will check the hangers and ask him to be careful.

Less than 5 mins later I get the call that he needs another blood transfusion as things have gotten out of control at the barracks (He has found an AKM and ammo). I sprint across and manage once again to stablise things using my significantly quieter PDW. So he is down to about 2000 blood and its transfusion time , AGAIN.

The next bit you just couldn't make up. I get into kneeled transfusion mode and after being in his inventory apparently, he exits it and manages to press the left mouse button once too many. BOOM , headshot from AKM point blank! Death screen, no shit. I was on the verge of rage and then just started laughing and couldn't stop. I had to see the funny side. This dude could not have put us more in danger or done more wrong in such a short space of time even if he planned it.

25 mins later I am back at airfield after a Kamenka spawn (I mean I want that M240 back). He is lying there in the grass where I left him "guarding" my body with 2000 blood. As I gather my gear he decides he can't wait to check out the barracks some more. He runs in (still blurred vision etc from blood loss), attracts zeds and shouts at me frantically as he gets stuck on the obstacle at the front of the barracks. Seconds later he is dead! He then gets in a mood because he has to start over and basically logs off!!!

Yeah buddy, If you are reading this - you 100% had the right to be pissed off there. After all it's not like you put our life in danger multiple times over 15 minutes before executing me gangland style.

Please tell me I am not the only person to have a "friend" like this, do share people :-)

Lol abandoning a team mate in the middle of a fire fight, not good. Yeah that could create some tension for sure.

I have a friend who sucks ASS at the game, and nobody really wants him around but we do because none of us can say it. Anyway he thinks he is hot shit and always tries to rush in and finish people and what not. I remember once he had a double barrel at the NWA (Smart weapon choice right?) and we saw someone in the firehouse. He said that the person has no weapon, but I told him to hang back. Of course he ignores this, sprints in with a DB and sure enough I hear BANG BANG BANG BANG from a DMR, and one double barrel shot, then he screams out into Teamspeak GOD FUCKING DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMNIT, mutes his mic, comes back 20 minutes later and he sounds so fucking depressed. We killed the bitch, we didn't save the DB when he asked for it because its a fucking DB.

The average person is fairly stupid and dayz is a challenging game. I think the single biggest draw back is that practically no one played arma2 so they have zero knowledge of the game mechanics. Unless you're a hacker or a duper with tons of resources you have limited experience with the weapons and usually don't get to stick with one weapon for very long to get to know it. People throwing grenades at their feet and killing their squad is a classic example of this.

Also if you're always being cautious and hiding you miss a lot of what happens in the open and you miss a lot of subtle nuances that the game offers.

Unless you play with a extremely large group of people your interactions are shady partnerships or blasting people in the face and moving on or getting blasted in the face.

While I think the game is very unique in its lack of "friendfire OFF" feature and lack of "protected squads" it does introduce a interesting learning curve for new players that don't have thousands of hours to run all day and learn from their mistakes much less master the large amount of weapons if they're constantly dying / staying on shore.

I hope they address a lot of this in the stand alone as it will make the average player a much better gamer and smarter players = better game.

I believe that game can still be niche and hard but still offer more education to new players. Even "veterans" that I run into still lack a ton of game knowledge.

In games like COD or BF you select your class and move from a "easy kit" to a more challenging one as you learn and progress. Tons of experience with your choosen setup and you still get plenty of noobs in those games. The problem is 10000x worse in dayz. I'd like to see the stat that shows average shots fired per life. I bet it's scary low.

Yup Digital,

I think I fall into the category of players you mention, new to Arma 2 mechanics and basically starting from zero.

I think I am reasonably well integrated now but still capable of picking up the odd tip day-to-day.

I think the kind of players like Doom Guy mentions (and my buddy) see this as a kind of bigger version of a traditional FPS.

This certainly leads to some problems for other team members, that's for sure.

Can still be a hell of a lot of fun playing with those crazy fellas as long as you survive and have some war stories to tell :)
