Beta launcher sucks?

Okso ive been out for a week or so on dayZ and i come back and have to update to beta, just happened to find a tutorial on how to do so, so i launche the game in steam and its like i didnt update, and then i try beta launcher and it works, but buttons and stuff are all fucked up and theres no side chat option but I CAN SEE PEOPLE USING SIDE CHAT, consequently im killed on every encounter because i cant reply

So my questions:

1. Are my problems the same everyone else is having?

2. Is side chat gone and what are my alternatives?
