Obsolescence 129 Posted September 1, 2012 I always hear people citing the AKMs ability to zero between 100 and 800 meters as being a huge strength. Can anyone explain when this is used or how effective it is? I find it difficult just to spot/sight a player at 400+ meters. This question may seem dense of me, but I just haven't discovered on my own why people care about this on an assault rifle. Thanks for the advice/input, as always. Sgt.Asshat 607 Posted September 1, 2012 Pretty good, practise in armex/armory. but alot of people lie about killing people with it at them ranges. biggest use for it on dayz is moving it down from 300 to 100 lol
Enemy11 (DayZ) 16 Posted September 1, 2012 Its very accurate, the zero'ing helps for long range like 500 meters where other assault rifles would fail. Burst fire + proper zero'ing makes it useable for medium range.
Tiercel 63 Posted September 1, 2012 Yeah the sights on the AK series are pretty shit anyway, Id be impressed if you could hit someone at even 200 meters with it accurately, let alone 800.

I have a friend who can one shot you at 600+ meters with the AKM, it's all he uses.

jurrasstoil (DayZ) 12 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) After fiddling around with it quite a bit in the shooting range, i have to agree that the ironsights are pretty terrible. At 400m you basically aim for a tiny spot on your screen and hope to hit anywhere, anything above 400m is a lot of hoping and a lot of luck.I mean, you can probably try to use it to countersniper, but even for that... I mean, you pretty much have to find an AKM first and then decide "let's hunt some snipers" for that situation to occur. jurrasstoil (DayZ) 12 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) That tiny speck in the middle of the iron sights is a target at 600m. After firing a full mag in semi and lying prone taking about 4s for every shot I hit the target exactly once out of 30 shots. At 400m I hit exactly 15 out of 30 shots.I still prefer the M16A2 at 400m with 26 out of 30 shots. The Iron sights and accuracy are just superior. I'm more than willing to sacrifice the damage for that. Edited September 1, 2012 by jurrasstoil
