heliman (DayZ) 26 Posted September 1, 2012 Instead of starting out with a complete map torn bits of maps should be strewn around to piece together. Not only that there should be multiple versions of the maps. Eg: Grid Line Map, Fuel Line Map, Water Line Map, Treasure Map, Detailed Airport Map, Detailed Military Maps, Unknown Air maps linking different islands waiting to be found. what you guys think?
Secrets 9 Posted September 1, 2012 Too complicated I think, we've got too much stuff to gather to try and survive as it is.Could end up with multiple pieces of the map whilst trying to get the other pieces.Maybe various different FULL maps, some more details then other like basic map, military map and maybe more would be a good idea!
sixfeetgiantbunnyrabbit 40 Posted September 1, 2012 Of course. More maps. More different maps. All torn to pieces. The more different stuff we are able to loot the better. It will reduce the Chance of finding exactly what you're looking for which is an elemental part of the survival experience dayz is aiming for.

madmax939@hotmail.com 3 Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) It might get tedious looking for pieces of maps, when really why would a map be torn up and placed in different locations. But I like the idea of treasure/loot maps..... Anyone played STALKER? You could find corpses with diaries on them that gave locations of the dead guy's loot - backpacks that had been stuffed down sewage pipes or hidden in the cavities of car engines. That kind of thing might add diversity to the loot locations instead of always finding stuff in buildings.Maybe in Dayz standalone, there could be maps of underground sewage areas which the players could then enter. Imagine exploring sewage tunnels with your flashlight and sewage line map as your only guide. Would be cool to have gunfights in large underground sewage lines! sasrecon 133 Posted September 1, 2012 If you want a map all you have to do is alt+tab or shift+tab to the steam browser and get a map like this http://db.dayzwiki.com/map/chernarusThere's not much point in changing the map feature in-game if such an external aid exists, however if the loot-spawn mechanic were server-specific then you could also make a server-specific map which could allow the opportunity for more types of maps such as the ones OP was suggesting..IIRC Rocket talked about being able to make and leave behind notes in the DayZ standalone, and possibly also making more buildings enterable, this would open up the option to introduce server-specific loot-spawns and maps more easily.
malau (DayZ) 36 Posted September 1, 2012 .............. You could find corpses with diaries on them that gave locations of the dead guy's loot - backpacks that had been stuffed down sewage pipes or hidden in the cavities of car engines............Diary mode based TREASURE MAPS on dead bodies ?! I love that idea ! It's a pity Rocket never gets to read these ideas any more.Maybe in Dayz standalone, there could be maps of underground sewage areas which the players could then enter. Imagine exploring sewage tunnels with your flashlight and sewage line map as your only guide. Would be cool to have gunfights in large underground sewage lines! And cave systems under hills, and military complexes under airfields. They could make it as hollow as SKYRIM with all the underground stuff.
