Maybe it was a trap and someone just waited to fire a satchel charge. I've seen situations like this a couple of times in some let's plays on youtube.

I put satchel charges inside the fire house in electro all the time. Hilarity and flying body parts always ensues. I also satchel charge dickface Dobryy snipers on a daily basis.

Lol... you can pretty much go with what everyone has said. It could also be that the bus was severely damaged and once you got in there was somebody waiting and shot at it, causing it to explodddeeeeee!!!
