Why I hate Stairs and Ladders

Recommended Posts

I can't be the only one having issues relating to navigating stairs and ladders. I really hate stairs for several reasons.

1) You fall through the stairs often

2) You also fall off after climbing a ladder sometimes. I try and avoid the deer huts now because I will often find 1 that is permanently bugged no matter how many times I try to climb it I will fall.

3) Stairs make player pathing completely terrible. You can't turn to look around you, ever. Even when at the end of the staircase you still cannot turn around without first hugging the facing wall then turning around which makes defending yourself against any type of fire impossible.

4) I once followed a player into the Cherno Apt Bldgs and set myself up in perfect position to ambush a player coming down the stairs. Only he was coming down the stairs in a smart way but a way that should be considered hacking or exploiting.

He was crouching and going prone on the staircase coming down so that he could see through the stairs and below to look for any threats. Well, he positioned himself in a way where the end of his barrell was sticking out of the staircase but I wasn't sure if he could see me or not.

Sure enough he fired and killed me by shooting straight through the staircase. After 8 days of living, to die like this almost made me quit the game but honestly I love it so much that I doubt I will ever outright quit.

It has changed my mindset though. I now completely avoid stairs, ladders and also towers because of the glitches, bugs, exploits, pathing etc... It shouldn't be this way. Please fix this stuff so that the entire game can be experienced properly instead of outright avoiding such things =\

Take a rifle (or broom if you don't have 1 handy).

Go to 1-1.5meters wide stairs and hold the rifle/broom like you would a real long weapon

Try to turn without pointing the end of the "weapon" up or down and see how easy it is to force it thru the wall.

Your post is confusing.

What I wrote and meant to say was that I was at the bottom of the staircase waiting for him to come down and I was not visible at all.

He was exploiting the clipping of the game by going prone on the staircase to see right through the ground and directly at me.

I knew he was looking at me because when he would do this, the barrell of his rifle would be pointed directly at my position. Meanwhile I couldn't see any part of him to get a clear shot other than seeing his rifle muzzle.

He then fired and killed me by firing straight through the staircase ground.

This kind of stuff needs to be fixed.

his responce was to your hating on the simulation of weapon length expressed by making it harder for people to manuver if they are in tight spaces. yes the description of the second event would be considered an exploit but you hatred of stairs seemed to be based on the fact that you don't like how you can't opint your gun in any old direction whilst on them.

try using the alt key to freelook if you wanna look around but just accept the fact that in real life you can't force a gun through a wall just because you wanna shoot someone

@Zorilya,

Yes, that makes sense and I agree with that although it's frustrating.

That's not the reason I hate stairs and ladders though. I hate them because you/I fall through them more often than I do not.

In real life it's a lot easier to maneuver indoors, even with a long rifle, than is portrayed in the game. The game seems to assume everybody keeps their weapon locked to the shoulder all the time, and if there isn't enough clearance they'll just stop moving instead of raising or lowering the weapon to get by. Stairwells are not difficult to sweep by any means, yet the game engine makes them tricky at best. I think the OP has a very valid point.

Ya been there done that and it can be done.

The game mechanic is not there to accomodate this. You take the rifle off your shoulder, simple yet effective.

Secondly the crouched position is shit because it really f's up your ability to turn even with a pistol.

Arama and operation flash point act like the player character is a vehicle more than a person I always found the player character mechanics of this game slow and clunky as compaired with other FPS games. It's almost annoying, okay it is annoying.

To bad the OP did not have the time and date of his deal it could be looked at in the server logs and possibly tracked. Hence a few days off for the offender for glitching / clipping.
