Will dogs be friendly in 1.7.3?

Recommended Posts

Hey all I'd just like to know if the dogs will be zombiefied or be friendly to players in 1.7.3.

i seen one video on youtube of Rocket testing the dog functions, seem they are friendly, well to the owners and some of the commands look pretty cool. I do hope for wild packs too, makes camping out in the woods a hell of alot freakier than it already is.

I don't think dogs will be capable of being anything but firendly. Though they can also be neutral in the sense that they'll run away from you if you don't have meat to tame them with? Pretty barebones mechanics, but at least it's a start.

You have to tempt them with some food and then you can train them. Could be a nice idea but want to see it in action before I decide if its going to add to the game or not. Imagine sending a dog into a deerstand and getting the zeds to chase them, you go in and get loot then whistle for your dog to come back. However imagine the feeling if the dog gets bitten and dies.... or worse.. ZEDOG

I hope they're friendly, I get scared fairly easily and I HATED the dogs in CoD ¬_¬, damn things would always show up in buildings and leap on my face.

I'm up for companion dogs, I want my own dogmeat to travel with, as long as when I crouch or prone, the dog does too, I don't want it to be a liability. I also want to put a Ghillie suit on my dog. And a backpack.

I would love to see dogs in DayZ, but I think that the mechanics aren't going to work well with the game idea.

Zombies won't attack dogs I believe, so it is not important if a Zed sees him.

Human players most probably will and kill them or use them to track you.

i can see alot of grief happening, people growing attached to their dog... and boom, lassie has been turned to a red mist.. the tears will flow!

My thoughts exactly.

I can't see the pros of having a dog with the Arma 2 limitations. I did notice a track feature, if the dog were to track a sniper in the area or something, that would be excellent.

basically the track feature would be all i used the dog for, excellent for flushing out the snipers in elektro, buuuut people will get startled by the dog and use the normal ALT F4 get outta the shit manouver therefore rendering the dogs pretty useless!

True. But the idea is sound none the less for inclusion in stand alone, and stand alone will remove alt-f4 altogether.

Standalone, with less to no hacking and no ALT F4 then yes, the dogs will have a valid use.. at the moment though they are a distraction, moving target and a damn give away of your problem

Dogs will be friendly, but will be as rare as choppers to find.

Once you have a dog, you can hide it in the forest under a tree and use it as cocain mule storage facility just like a tent.

You will also be able to kill them, gut them and cook raw meat from them.

Dogs will have basic coyote backpacks but you can upgrade them with Alice Packs.

If you give the dog a gun, he will also be able to shoot with it (the gun shows attached to the dog's head)

And last but not least, with a shot of morphine the dog will be able to fly so you can ride him like a dragon (the dog will be able to fart fire bolts)

I'm wondering how able they will be when it comes to navigating terrain. The one thing that always makes me rage about companions in video games is that they always seem to suck ass at getting around the simplest of obstacles. I jump down off of a 2 foot ledge and my companion just can't seem to comprehend what I've just done so instead they decide to go around the ledge even if that ledge continues for 3 fucking miles.

Fuck I hate companions.

The dog will have an integrated GPS and will be able to ride terrain like a motorbike, so no worry about having them following you everywhere.

Still, you will have to refuel your dogs with jerrycans whenever you can. Upgrading them with fuel tank parts will also help.
