Lets talk about opened ammo

Just a suggestion to complement magazines and ammo clips for every suvivor.

It should be possible to put opened magazines together. Just like the combine function for .45 acp bullets. A simple right click on an half empty magazine and put together. So two magazines with only a few shoots can be put together to one.

I think this is a good idea, but ideally i'd say magazine and ammo should be completely separate entities anyway. You should need to find magazines and ammo separately to make firearms a bit more balanced in relation to melee and home made weapons (hammers, cross bows, hatchets, machete, swords etc.

That way it would mean there would be fewer people runnign about with high end military grade weapons, such as the AS50 or the M4 as it would mean a lot more time and effort would have to go into finding three separate entities (gun, .ammo and magazines) for that weapon. Yes if you WANT to do that then they are there but there should be a trade off and there should be more reason for NOT wanting to do that, i.e. it's just easier and quieter to find and use household weapons such as a hammer, crowbar or wrench.

Yeah I hope this is added... hate having 3-4 20 round mags in pack for AKM.... -_-

Yes please do this, hate having inventory full of half mags.

Put them in your back pack. ;)

I have to say that the idea that ammo is separate from magazines is a no brainer.

I hate having to carry 10 mags when one ammo box(2 spaces) and 3 mags would be so much more practicable. This would also mean that ammo that is nearly the same could really be swapped between mags more easily. ie the NATO standard.

I also think that it could be used as a mechanism to cut down ammo spawns and make ammunition a much more valuable commodity.

while i disagree with making ammunition rare i would like to be able to combine magazines, i mean hell anyone who has a brain knows that its as simple as pulling the bullets out of one and putting them into the other, its sure alot simpler that making a 1911 mag appear out of this air just because i found a revolver speedloader

Ammo and clips/mags as separate entities.

Here's a good way to balance weapon distribution.

Make ammo more plentiful (and graded by calibres instead of the mag it's loaded in) but make mags/clips more rare.

With a few exceptions, revolvers or belt-fed weapons (some having very specific calibres whose ammunition are never shipped out of a box, always a boxed belt).

Make it s you can strip a mag from its ammo.

Make it so that when a mag is emptied, it does not disappear (think water bottle)

Make it so that refilling mags is time consuming.

Make it so rounds take more space than the equivalent space for ammo loaded in mags so players prefer keeping one free ammo dump instead of refilling ammo on the spot (which takes time, remember?).

Also, I like crossbows, but how about making them rare and having bows be as rare as the current DayZ crossbow?

What I said earlier applies to bolt/arrow quivers too. I can do without a bow, but having a guy only being able to carry 12 bolts (while his friend can carry 6 full boxes of SAW/240 rounds is, er, not nice?
