Direction of Day Z?

Recommended Posts

I'd just like to request that the mod team post up some kind of statement outlining where they are intending to go with the mod.

Over E3 there were interviews posted with some comments that a stand alone Day Z download were the team's top priority at a lower cost than purchasing the Arma2 combined operations package. There were also comments made about moving to the Arma 3 engine as a base for the game.

My questions are:

1. Is there now a dedicated team working on Day Z funded by Bohemian?

2. Will there be a stand alone, paid Day Z game? Simplified, stand alone downloader? Perhaps at a lower price than the current price of Arma 2?

3. Current players have all downloaded Arma 2 + Arrow head, do they pay again for the downloaded Day Z stand alone product? Or will there be a choice of a mod version or stand alone version that are compatible. (Basically a bundling of mod necessary assets for use with the mod into an installer, stripping the regular Arma2 assests out.)

4. Will Day Z move to the Arma 3 engine?

5. Current players have purchased Arma 2 products in order to play. They will have to pay for Arma 3 if the game moves engines and stays as a mod.

It would help me, and maybe a lot of prospective players, if I knew where things were heading. I guess the simplest way to handle things is to make Day Z it's own game. Make the stand alone product the only way to play, make it $20-30. Then if the engine changes they just roll out a new single installer with the new engine included. No messing with different installers, product versions, patch levels of underlying product, etc.

I know it is very early in the life of Day Z. But these are things the devs need to think about. Especially if it is now their full time job at the studio.

See you in the field!

I agree. I'd like to hear some of the dev team's thoughts on where they think that this mod is going to go in the coming months.

Most of these questions have been answered in the last 24 hours, at least once.

1: No, suppose you can somewhat count Rocket, but that's not really a team I guess.

2: Stand-alone: Likely, payment system yet to be determined, but a lot of thought goes into this as well.

3: If it's going to be paid, there won't be 200.000 free copies given out, obviously...
