Jaoai 16 Posted August 30, 2012 I honestly don't know how you keep finding these hacker servers, i have never been killed by a hacker and played for about 2 months now.Sure, i'm positive someone with a non-legit weapon has killed me, but that's not a hacking death imho.Never been teleportedNever been dropped from the skyNever died for no reason, except for obvious bugsMy worst enemy is server admin kids restarting every 5 minutes. That makes the game unplayable for me.
4Lex 15 Posted August 30, 2012 I dont think the stand alone version of the MOD will provide a solution for the HACKER problem, it may very well increase if not dealt with urgently.
RaysGoodLiquor 93 Posted August 30, 2012 You seen the population on the servers recently? They seem all but dead with the exception for about 5 or 6 servers with max out people. Yes hackers love huge population servers it where they can do the most damage. You are naive though if you think Battleye is even making a dent. Especially if you read up on Battleye supposedly the new thing is hackers stealing thousands of used keys and reselling them, Yes in the THOUSANDS, So if you're CD key is in use it's most likely because you tried downloading one of those fake Youtube ***s and got keylogged. I've seen Rocket talking about yes they could stop the cheating if they focused on it and not "content update". LOL content update is a joke anyway they never fix the things that NEED to be fixed. Rocket: DONT WORRY MAN BEAR TRAPS BRO, BEAR TRAPS. FIX THE HACKING lol nevermind they already made enough money to fund a stand alone. I can hear the excuses already..... ITS IN ALPHA! So what? It's always gonna be in Alpha until the stand alone comes. GOOD LUCK. Yes, they dont care about Dayz they got the message out already they are focusing on the Stand Alone which is good I dont mind right but dont lie to our faces like you're fixing anything. You are not. You are putting a band aid on a broken arm and you know it.Interesting... One of the guys I play with had zero issues with the game, until he started getting CD key errors 4 or 5 days ago. We did everything we could think of, short of formatting his hard drive. He reinstalled and initiated both games through steam, tried multiple versions of Dayz, and even used DayZ files from multiple download mirrors to ensure there wasn't a file or two being lost in transition. When all else failed, he contacted Bohemia support. The ultimate solution was Bohemia gave him a free digital copy of Operation Arrowhead without an explanation as to what the problem was to begin with. We couldn't think of a scenario where an unbanned CD key would just shit itself, but this seems to make a lot of sense.
elasticz 35 Posted August 30, 2012 They're never going to stop working on the mod, no matter how bad of a situation it gets in.Rocket stated that even when the standalone is released they will still focus on the mod.
codeoverflow 11 Posted August 30, 2012 Agreed. It's up to a point where when you die unexpectedly, your first thought is "f***ing hackers man!", and not "wow that was a good play, nice one man".And that is not good for any game, or mod. I agree, fix the major bugs on the mod, and leave it be or release it to the community.Major meaning tents/vehicles saves and maybe graphic glitches if you can.Leave the new features for the standalone. Enough is enough.
wutitdo 19 Posted August 30, 2012 Interesting... One of the guys I play with had zero issues with the game, until he started getting CD key errors 4 or 5 days ago. We couldn't think of a scenario where an unbanned CD key would just shit itself, but this seems to make a lot of sense. Yes most likely a hacker stole his key and sold it on a forum prob for $2 bucks or so. It's happening to a lot of people and I'm surprised they are not really talking about it but it's true and it's in the thousands so really banning 20,000 hackers is cool and all but when those hackers are just buying $2 dollar keys they are coming back the same day to do it all again and in return it's killing the game. They need to just eliminate hacking as much as a they can focus on that solely and try to fix it. Yes and like that guy said before the tent issues not saving, graphic glitches.... these are all very annoying and very old bugs yet adding some items is suppose to make the community happy.... here is what Battleye said... WARNING: Massive cd-key theft going on [ 29.08.2012 • 17:00 ] As already mentioned in the previous news post, there is currently a massive ongoing effort by certain entities to steal people's cd-keys to then sell them for a profit. Private hack forums are full of posts of these fraudsters trying to sell heaps of cd-keys for a cheap price. We are talking about hundreds of cd-keys here, so this is not a small issue at all. The game developers confirmed that this is a huge problem right now. Their process of stealing cd-keys is quite simple: They advertise a supposedly undetected hack on sites like YouTube and the moment you download and run it (it will probably report that the hack failed to load) your cd-key is already stolen. In many cases your actual cd-key in registry is overwritten with a banned one, so you will automatically receive a global ban message on join (see below). This is done to prevent you from using your cd-key again, so the fraudsters can sell them claiming that they are valid and not in use. Note that this can be fixed (temporarily) by deleting the cd-key from the registry and reinstalling your game. While your original cd-key is not banned due to this, it might very well end up being soon when your cd-key is being used by a cheater that purchased it. This causes many players to think they were innocently banned when in fact their cd-key was stolen and used for cheating. At the very least you will often receive a "CD key in use" message when trying to connect to servers. If you think this is false propaganda to cover up supposed false global bans I advise you to do some research on this yourself. You can easily verify this by searching for "free ***" on YouTube. You will see lots of results and almost all of them are scams. Most of them are actually quite popular and have thousands of views. When downloading them and opening the .exe file in e.g. Notepad (warning: do not actually run the .exe!), you can find cd-key related strings such as "SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA" (the registry location of the cd-key) inside. In short, heed the following: DO NOT EVER RUN ANY HACKS OR OTHER SUSPICIOUS SOFTWARE! If you end up being banned due to your cd-key being stolen there is nothing we can do for you.
Blakbewwy 8 Posted August 30, 2012 Plenty of empty servers which are still hive to settle down on. The one I've settled on rarely has over 5 players, and I'm in a trio. It's usually just us. Much funner to avoid hackers and generally avoid other life, it feels much more desolate as if we are literally the only people here; and, on the rare occasions we do find people, they are usually just like us and we end up trading plus getting along just fine. Even better, virtually every vehicle in the server is in it's natural spawn point so we have a nice ripe batch of vehicles to choose from. Going to go find a huey some time as well, and go gun down every son of a beotch in cherno (zombies that is).
GrumpyFragger 67 Posted August 30, 2012 Playing for 3 weeks now on low and high pop servers and never faced a hacker so far apart from stumbleing over hacked guns. To be honest, apart from the teleporting thingie I think most hack claims come from players who just dont saw it comming aka run into a sniper and claim afterwards: I was le killzored by a hackz0r !!!11!! Cos it makes you feel better when you believe nothing could have done anyway to avoid your death instead of admitting failure.
SteveMac555 37 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) They might as well drop the mod - Players in the last 24hrs has been constantly dropping (by around 60,000 players now) so it's obvious the lack of updates/fixes and hacking situation is causing a problem. It would make the standalone much better if they dropped the mod and worked on that non-stop from now to December (which I believe is when an Alpha is due?)Rocket has already stated that some problems CAN'T be solved without moving to a standalone platform, so what's the point carrying on with the mod? Questing 0 Posted August 30, 2012 I stick to one server that happens to be really close to where I live. Mainly because it has a ping of <30. I have been playing for about 25 hours and have ever only run into a hacker twice, and not even on my "home" server. The thing is, they were really nice. They gave us transfusions, weapons and drinks. They said "don't let the mean hackers get to you!" and then disconnected. So, I can't say as I have had a sour experience with hackers so far.
The2ndLink 156 Posted August 30, 2012 I'm sick of people claiming that DayZ is "unplayable".I play almost everyday... faving tons of fun.I have NEVER been nuked, NEVER experienced the thunderdome. In the past month I have seen evidence of two hackers. One was on my friends screen. He didn't get killed, the hackers teleported to him and asked him to leave, which he did.I don't know what I am doing different than some of you.I play on a private hive most of the time, EU, 10 - 25 players most of the time. hunterkilla 67 Posted August 30, 2012 Just a quick question.. How do you know if you were killed by a hacker or not? Ever been in the middle of nowhere and suddenly shot and killed? Ever ran through a town or area and got shot and killed? Ever been shot and killed period? Not all hackers thunderdome, Plenty ESP or teleport and kill from a distance. Not all have godmode on and some are garbage to the point of losing fights they see coming.Don't just assume because you weren't dropped from the sky that the last time you died from a player it wasn't a hacker. (Not saying it was, but the ignorance is abundant.)I would only say I died from a hacker if it was something obvious like thunderdome or dancing whilst dropping in the sky, we can get shot from anywhere and assume its a hacker when you were just unlucky or stupid..... Closi (DayZ) 9 Posted August 30, 2012 Either I am reallllyy lucky or you guys are doing something wrong.I haven't encountered a hacker SO FAR - I was killed in strange ways though ( Walking down a village on a 10 players server, was playing with 5 friends - suddenly something exploded and we were dead.)Sometime ago everybody was hyping this game, bringing in all the new players who get pissed when they get killed, start playing unfair...We all know that ARMA 2 is a "trusting game", so why are you guys complaining ? Either get lost or keep on playing ...There are so many gamers paying for games like GW2, WoW and so on.We payed 25€ / 20$ FOR SO MUCH FUN I HAD IN 4 YEARS CoD...Play on low populated servers, don't kill on sight and there will be half as much hackers as there are at the moment. hunterkilla 67 Posted August 30, 2012 I dont think the stand alone version of the MOD will provide a solution for the HACKER problem, it may very well increase if not dealt with urgently. From what has been said they are using the standalone to lock down these hacking problems. at least it will be harder for hackers compared to the current system that any script kiddy can do what they want. No system is 100% foolproof but at the moment you are aware that a hacker could be around any corner waiting to fk up your game
Dr Cheese 100 Posted August 30, 2012 I won't lie. Everytime I see someone who claims they have never been killed by a hacker or only been killed a couple of times by a hacker I can't help but think they have to be a hacker themselves to not be getting killed every 30 minutes by one.Ive been thunderdomed on a server with 7 people in it before. I really don't know how people can be so lucky...I have only ever encountered one, that made me dance, turned night to day and vice versa a few times, then turned me into a dog, at that point I logged out. That's in over two months of gameplay. I have never been killed by a hacker... I don't think the hacking is as bad on UK servers though.
Closi (DayZ) 9 Posted August 30, 2012 I assume this is NOT the first game you are playing!CoD, BF, Quake, PES , Fifa, ARMA, WoW - and one thing I can tell you : THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN HACKERSDeal with it or gtfo ... nobody forces you to play DayZ ( A free mod , which is in ALPHA (Beta)-Phase atm)Game comes out -> Hacker starts analyzing the games code -> Hacker starts writing his own hack etc ...-> Hack detected -> Hack updated ...It s a war which will never end . TheMachine 803 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) I just don't believe people saying they aren't encountering hackers, I'm sorry but it's bullshit.Watch any live stream, even when their names are hidden and people aren't directly targeting them with hacking/stream sniping, they're being killed multiple times per session en masse.Rockets own stream on IGN was rolled by hackers 3 times in an hour.If you aren't seeing any hacking you're probably playing on servers with -3 players, but I've been thrown 500 feet in the air on low pop servers too.Or you're a hacker, who's meta trolling us.It's bad for the game to let it run on when it's like this, people are just going to be turned off. SillySil 295 Posted August 30, 2012 Agree with abandoning the mod and focusing on stand alone. Just remove the dead soldiers before you go.
jdblair5 170 Posted August 30, 2012 The mod should have been turned over to the public a while ago. Private hives should have been supported from the get go. The only potential right now I see for the mod is in fact private hives and community growth through private hives.Unlike many I am not that excited about the standalone. It is being propped up on speculation and one-liners. I don't think the mod is dead, it's is struggling right now for sure, but things could potentially turn around. Whether that happens is yet to be seen.
ncmpaintball@hotmail.com 0 Posted August 30, 2012 (edited) I started playing back in June and have never run into a hacker so I'll continue to play the mod and enjoy it. I do think that the mod should be turned over to the public while the devs focus on the standalone. Just my two cents Edited August 30, 2012 by STX_Dye
