You know DayZ is something special when...

Recommended Posts

Over the weekend, the pump on my liquid cooling system went out... After trying to get it up and working again for a few hours, I said 'screw it', went into my garage, found my old, broken original Xbox, took the heat sink off, and popped it on my pc's cpu. I took the fans from the liquid cooling system and have them sitting on the heat sink (I had to put my computer down horizontally to make this work)... all so I could get back to playing DayZ. I'm happy to say that, while my computer is running a little hotter than normal, it's still within the heat limits and I can safely play this incredible game.

also, I think my old forum account was deleted? I still have my old activation email, but when I tried to login, it said there was no account linked to that email :/

To be fair, I tooled around for a while before finding out that the forums were hacked, accounts deleted, etc etc....

Back on topic, that is hilarious that you scavenged your old Xbox for the heatsink. You have demonstrated the ingenuity and scavenger spirit that will serve you well in the zombie apocalypse.

lol, that's what I was thinking. I thought it was hilarious that I was using DayZ skills in real life in order to keep playing DayZ.

oh snap, things just got real. lol. I still have a working Xbox hooked up (modded, with media center installed). Although, I have like 15 game consoles hooked up. I'm glad I could put some old parts to use.

My computer is running somewhat hotter, but I haven't had it lock up in a couple days... even under some high activity situations. The pump on my liquid cooling system must have been going out for a while, because my computer would randomly bsod fairly often. I'd monitor the temps, and they were always fine, but it doesn't even take a minute for the cpu to overheat if my pump would stutter.

I guess you also know it's something special when your average life is like 10 minutes (many times because of a glitch), you get the annoying bug where you get less than 10fps over half the time, joining a game sometimes takes forever, and when you finally find a server that works well and get lucky enough to have a decent framerate... some random guy shoots you in the head... when despite all of that, you still keep coming back and enjoy the crap out of every second :P

Agreed! most of my friends get irritated and leave Dayz but there is just something about it that makes me carry on playing

lol. My friends are interested, but, unlike me, are unwilling to drop $30 on a mod. I'm sure Arma II is great and everything, but I don't see myself playing it any time soon.
