How to survive in DayZ

The post will help you survive in DayZ.

Once you start for the first time, you will be on the coast. There are two option here. You can either go to the towns/cities along the coast trying to get gear OR you can go inland (straight ahead of where you spawn).

Cities are great places to get food and ammo, but be warned they are also dangerous, many bandits roam these areas in the hopes of killing you and taking your beans. Not only bandits but there are a lot of zombies, which you will not stand a chance against, since you only have a makarov. I would suggest go around and going into surrounding buildings looking for a winchester rifle (great at killing zombies (one shot)) After you have found a winchester move into the cities, crouch and move slowly. Once you are packed out with loot leave the city and go up north into the mountains.

They are the safest place you can go to. No zombies are there (yet) and you don't usually get attacked by bandits. There are some smaller cities and towns up north as well, so you can get loot, though they are spread out in great distances.

To survive up north you will need to search for food and water often. If you feel that you could be getting better loot in cherno and elecktro, by all means go back but be careful.

If someone asks for help, do not assist them. This is a survival game and you want to survive. Most of the people who need help, want to lure you in and kill you. Take your stuff and then move along.

If you hear shooting in the direction you are facing, turn around and go the opposite direction. There are two possibilities as to why someone is shooting, they are either defending themselves or they are purposely doing so to try and get your attention. Remember, curiosity killed the cat.

If you are getting attacked by zombies, pull out your pistol and run (you move faster, I think), go to a building and enter it. Zombies can only walk while inside, so this is your chance to put some bullets in a zombies head. After you dealt with the zombies, move out double time, if you are in a city there is no doubt that at least one bandit heard the gun fire and is heading in your direction.

DO NOT run in the open, bandits always look out for stupid people doing this. IF you do it, you're going to risk being killed. Crouch and go along the tree line. Even if some shoots you in there, you have trees to hide behind, which act as some cover.

Whatever you do, don't use Lee enfield rifle (by all means use it when you know what you're doing) it is powerful, but extremely loud, if bandits dont come after you, 30-40 zombies will.
