Some sort of hideouts, private areas, which is owned and controlled by the player and the player decides whos welcome and whos not, and in here you can stash various things, cash, items, in lockers which can be access by an "access level" or just by code or keys, or just by the owner.

The houses should look reinfoced since they are built as homes against the dead.
