So, when can we expect a real helpful update?

Recommended Posts

He said GPU, not CPU.

The AMD HD 7400M is most definately NOT what I would consider a high end or even a medium graphics card.

The HD7600 series is considered medium usage ie: movies and light gaming.

HD78-7900 series is the gaming graphics.

Your CPU is up to the task, but I would definitely take a closer look at that graphics card.

I'm basing this on the fact that I'm able to run Battlefield 3 on medium, which I KNOW is intensive, hence why you're not going to tell me that this game demands more than BF3.

You showed yourself as insufficiently schooled in hardware the moment you said the laptop wasnt to blame, so stop acting butthurt and take the time to learn.

Its NOT a gaming machine its not even remotely close........ you got ripped off here deal with it lots of people get ripped off with "gaming laptops".

If you think your hardware NEVER goes over 35 degrees then seriously you should not even pretend you know what your talking about.

I've built and sold over 20 high and mid end gaming rigs this year and upgraded/repaired many others so while not a full time pro I know what I'm talking about.

DayZ is horrific for performance anyway I know people that run it one day flawlessley and the next have so many issues they consider quitting.

Can you please stop smacking people in the face? This thread was created to help me resolve my issue, and as I said millions of times before, i'm basing the on the MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS. I'm running BF3 flawlessly, which is a **** lot more hard to run than this game.

Please just leave my thread, you're not being very constructive, you're just breaking my view of a fix, which i KNOW can be achieved. Since there are so many people out here with a lot more out-of-tune graphics card, that does run it flawlessly.

Now please, stop filling this thread with that stuff, I don't even want to hear it, just rant in a PM, but stop wasting my time now.

I appreciate the fact that you're trying to "Teach?" me something, but It's not working out. (If this was your intention at all.)

So yeah.. Please.

cause i must admit it sounds really wierd.. some ppl with monster pc's have low fps.. and others with smaller pc's have no problem at all

imo it could be some computer settings.. not dayZ or arma2 settings.. cause it smells a bit fishy to me

the problem is dayz is the ONLY software/game that has these types of issues.

in your config file make sure that the...

Render_W=1366;

Render_H=768;

lines match your screen resolution, those numbers above are mine

change your -exthreads to 7 instead of 1

change your detected frames to 1 instead of 0

add -winxp to your startup parameters

add -maxMem=2047 -maxVRAM=2047 to startup parameters

in audio settings, drop your samples to 16

and does this fancy coolsense technology (sounds like a breath mint) keep the processor cool or is it meant to keep the bottom of the laptop cool. yes I understand cool = cool, but the laptop could be cool but processor still be running hot.

In your graphics driver setup control panel thingy... turn off threads or threaded optimization and match any other settings to what is in your game setup

in your video settings change shadow quality to high instead of disabled.

I would try these one at a time and see what happens.... just some hopefully helpful input

I used to get bad FPS when I was running the wrong version of Arma 2, updated and have no problems now.

Just thought i'd mention incase people with FPS problems have overlooked this. DayZ commander is the best for keeping up to date.

Oh, in addition to my spec post, if there are some real tech-guys watching,

Let me just sum up my process of changing:

Client side: Not using Six Updater Anymore, turned out a HELL to find friends. Am now using DayZ commander. (Think about hiring this guy rocket, he's actually done well.)

In-game: Specs.png

In the Arma2OA.Cfg:

FSAA=0;

postFX=0;

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=0;

HDRPrecision=8;

lastDeviceId="";

localVRAM=1120931840;

nonlocalVRAM=2147483647;

vsync=0;

AToC=0;

PPAA=0;

PPAA_Level=0;

Ramdisk:

Steam Launcher Options:

-CpuCount=4 -nosplash -high -noPause -world=empty -exThreads=1

So as you can see, a lot was changed.

1. Throw your laptop out of the nearest window and get a desktop. :D /jk

2. Try setting -exThreads= to 7 (I'm not sure if this even helps, but that's where i have it with a quad, AMD though)

3. Keep your "video memory" at default (so it uses the maximum you have), set everything you have on 'Normal' to 'High' minimum. If I remember correctly, anything below 'High' uses your CPU for rendering instead of the GPU. (someone correct me on this, if you have the fact)

4. If none of the above helps, turn HDR off/lower and just go down with your (3d) resolution, until your FPS is reasonable.

(I used to play ArmA 2 with my integrated HD 4290 (oc'd) with playable fps, though it wasnt real 'pretty'.)

Just curious about something. A lot of people recommend lowering the 3d res setting for performance. My game looks like shit if I don't keep them at the same setting (1920x1200 for both Res and 3d Res). What is it about running them at different settings that makes the game textures so blurry?

Your laptop GPU is low end thats a fact you need to face rather than going "LALALALA MY LAPTOP IZ GUD FOR GAMING"..... its not if you didnt spend £1500 or more on a laptop its not good for gaming and even then your £1500 laptop will get trounced by a £800 desktop. Also your laptop suffers heat issues when used for prolonged gaming all laptops do thats another fact.

If its got worse lately though check your laptop power settings aren't switching to the Intel Integrated graphics (which are worse again) this is a common problem I see with laptops and often explains the "OMG my FPS dropped" issues.

What he says. Laptops are shitty when it comes to gaming, except when u buy those expensive laptops like the one from razer.

I actually got better performance when I started cranking UP my settings. Dunno why but it's worth a shot.

Changing the shadow quality setting to High or Very High causes it to be processed by the GPU, leaving it at default or lower causes it to be processed by the CPU which is already bogged down by the game itself. Changing this setting to high when you have low FPS can cause an increase in performance. I'm not sure if any of the other settings act this way, but it's possible depending on your system that changing other settings to High will not decrease performance.

That actually did help my FPS by quite a bit :) running some servers on 24 fps now, which is proper enough to play :)

Cheers a lot mate, and now that you mention it, it does sound like a breathmint lol.. But yeah, it's meant to keep the processor cool when it starts running on high levels.

Thanks!

Confirmed that it worked in combination with a previous post, thanks :)

Even although razer is definitly top-notch, it's not the only exception. There are plenty of laptops capable of doing good gaming, thanks to the other guys, i'm now playing it quite well.

I dearly hope so.

I can understand that, but how is it that the FPS used to be fine? Wasn't it arma-tweaked yet or..?

Well then I can not understand.

I have a Hp pavilion Dv7

i7-2670QM CPU @ 2,20Ghz (TurboBoost enabled > 3.10Ghz) Sata

AMD Radeon HD 7400M Series

Intel HD graphics family

8Gb Ram (Quad Core)

700Gb HDD DDR3

Internet specs:

bandwith: 2Tb - Unlimited

Download: 42Mb/S

Upload: 24Mb/S

It's litterly impossible that it's my computer.

No. It is your computer.

1. Your GPU might as well be not there.

2. Your CPU is underclocked to 2.2ghz which is stupid.

My only guess is you went full retard, and bought a macbook pro or something? It's your own fault.

What the hell are you still even saying?

The problem was at the Exthreads not being at 7, and not having everything up on "high".

Now that everything is up on high, it's running flawleslly, same like battlefield 3.

You can shut the hell up on blaming the computer now, because it's just fine, and yes, now i'm freely telling you to bugger off, since I know my PC wasn't the problem.

And the Processor, fyi, isn't underclocked, it's to preserve battery life (this is the standard computer setting), turbo boost kicks in when a game application starts, and clocks to 3,10Ghz, I don't know what the **** you're saying.

Now please, go away :)

Edit: Yes, i'm angry at people that start old discussions again, that have been explained in so many previous posts. You're saying my computer can't run it because it's bad, but yet, it's running it very damn well right now, and I already said this computer was made for playing BF3 aswell, which it also does, on a great FPS. So just stop trying to blame stuff on my PC and act like you know it all, because it's not the PC. I'm not even saying my PC is "amazing", i'm saying it's well-suited for gaming. Just not on high-end. Anyway, rant over. So all you people trying to talk bad over my specs, just go away, I don't need your stupid "know-it-all" information here, because it's simply not true, face it already.

And to all of you who did put constructive info up here, thanks a lot. Tweaking those final settings finally were what I needed!
