Starting ARMA II / DayZ with Steam

I bought ARMA II CO off of steam, but using the launcher makes the game not use steam while it is playing (i.e. no steam overlay / shift + tab does nothing). Is there a way to use a launcher but still have the steam overlay enabled? BTW, I use DayZ commander.

Hey. i want to play dayz using steam aswell but when i run the game with steam using dayz commander it's says "Bad Version" on any server.

Someone know what to do about that?
