Is there a way to spot tents easily? Even when well hidden.

On a server I play on, I set up my camp slightly inland but still on the edge of a forest, and I hid all of the tents inside of trees/bushes. So they are very hard to see even up close, you pretty much need to know exactly where they are in order to find them.

Anyways, recently I found a group camp out on the far outskirts of Chernarus, 5 tents together, and I initially a week ago or so did two runs to the camp and stole some snipers and other high-end gear, and stored them in my hidden tents. Not a huge distance away, but a good 10 minute sprint.

Then after saving my tents etc... and finishing up, I logged out, then logged in the next day to find my tents raided, everything I stole, gone, and even more gone. Before that, my tents had never been found by anyone. So I declared my camp compromised took down the tents and moved away, I set up somewhere else and hid my tents again within some trees, completely hidden by the trees apart from a small opening which was onto a steep hill. In the middle of nowhere. I was proud of how well hidden they were.

So... I decided to do another run of the camp to get some more gear since I had very little, to my surprise when I got there, I found in the tents all of the weapons I had stolen a week ago, whether they took them back or simply replaced them I'm not sure. Anyways, I took one weapon, some ammo, morphine and other supplies and took off, nothing that would be instantly noticeable. (not like last time)

I stored them in my tents, saved and came off DayZ to do real life stuff, I just logged back in 6 - 7 hours later, and the weapon I took is gone... the ammo and morphine is still there, but the weapon, not there.

So I'm guessing my camp has been found, again. And if so, I suspect the same guys who own the camp I raided, came and took it back.

I'm just wondering how... they keep finding my tents, I hide them really well, far from anywhere of interest, but not far enough on the outskirts where people intentionally go out searching for camps. Which is where their camp is. Is there something people change in the video settings to remove foliage or something, so trees become sticks and tents stand out, I've seen settings like that in other games since foliage can have an impact on performance.

Tribes Ascend is one game where trees on high graphics are full of leaves and block your view, whereas on low graphics they become leaf-less sticks that take up considerably less space.

I need to know if it's even worth trying to use foliage to hide tents, or if there's a setting that can just destroy all of the work I put into hiding them.

@op, It's still worth hiding them well, but there are loads of ways they can be found with hacker shit and plant file deletion, I think admins can decipher logs as well.

I don't anyone raided or found your tents at all. ;)

Tents are bugged in the current version of the game. One of my tents contains an AS50 and 2 FN FAL and one M4A3 and one L85 after every server restart even if I took the weapons out, while my second tent spawns empty or not at all.

Best thing is not to use tents at all for now.

Tents are disappearing/not saving correctly/working all at random with this version. It's all very hit and miss. Same goes for vehicles still. Kind of surprised they aren't cracking down on this huge bug or maybe they are and we'll have a fix soonish.

They are not bugged, if your missing stuff it's because its been TAKEN and Tent has been re-SAVED

I have been a victim of a disappearing tent and an empty tent after a restart. I just found it strange how with both times, items were left in the tents, just items of little value, everything good, was gone. And especially this time when the weapon was gone, but the ammo and morphine was all still there, the rarest thing stored in the tent was missing. I probably wouldn't think much if my backup M1911 was gone. But it just seems suspicious.

I was going to say the server hadn't restarted in those 6 - 7 hours, but checking DayZ Monitor.

It restarted 3 times in less than 15 minutes :/, only about half an hour before I got on to check my tents. I've never seen such frequent restarting. So I guess they could have messed up my tents, still weird to find the rarest item missing out of everything there.

Freak there is indeed an option for that, check at grapic options -> advanced options.

And sometimes a server needs multiple restarts because tents/vehicles don't spawn or of because of some other problem.

Or perhaps the admin was changing settings and it went wrong, I don't know, but I know it happens.

No-one is finding your tents, patch 1.7.2.5 is bugged so that tents will only save once

• You put up tent (Stage 1)
  
• You put gear in tent (Stage 2)
  
• You save tent (Stage 3)
  
• You put more gear in tent (Stage 4)
  
• You save tent (Stage 5)
  
• Someone finds your tent, steals everything out of it and saves (Stage 6)
  
• Server restarts and tent reverts to Stage 3
  

After that initial save, no matter what you put in it, or what you take out, after the server restart the tent will revert to it's initial save state. Same goes with vehicles.

It's just reverting back to what you had in it when you first saved. Only way to save something now is find a brand new tent.

Oh wow, I knew tents had problems but I didn't think they were that completely broken. Thanks for the info.

I hope that's at the top of the list for things to fix. Even just a hotfix patch to fix tents would be good, since it seems to be longer and longer between patches these days.

Who knows how old I'll be when 1.7.2.6 eventually rolls out D:, turn it into a hotfix - release by the end of the week, come on Rocket. :D

As you know we play on the same server and I've been having similar issues. It's the latest hotfix. Fingers crossed it get's sorted soon.

On a side note, I was going to drop off those thing you wanted at your camp but I figured it's kind of pointless until tents are saving properly :(

There is an illegal, community fix for that, that everyone can do themselves. All it takes is fixing some stupid mistyp0's in a server file.This requires changing a pbo file, though, which is more evil than Hitler and Stalin combined.

Meanwhile, three weeks have passed, and no official typo-fixing arrived. Yay!
