Question about the Public and Private hives

This is kind of answered in the FAQs and in other posts but not exactly to the extent that makes me feel comfortable so I'm just making doubley sure I understand this.

So a private server has its own character hive seperate from the public hive. What I want to make sure is that having a public character and a private character WILL NOT conflcit with each other right? I have a public character but want to play on a specific private server, if I join that server and make a new character it WILL NOT delete my public character right? So I can switch between the two characters when I want to and they have individual progress? And as such, if one dies leading to a new character on that server, it will not also kill off my public character will it?

You can switch to and fro without problem. neither of them conflict with each other at all.
