Social Engineering and DayZ!

'Social engineering, in the context of security, is understood to mean the art of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information.'

I've been toying with this in a few servers and the whole idea behind manipulating folk to go places or perform certain actions then shooting their shit up from behind. Needless to say, I feel awful about it afterward, but the loot soon takes my mind off of any bad feelings or regret.

Have you ever tried to 'Socially Engineer' people? Leading them into a sense of false security then turning the gun on them and enjoying their loot? Heres a few stories.

Me and my friend were looting NW Airfield Barracks and I had a Remington and plenty of ammo, someone spots us and asks if we're friendly, we go on for a while about how we're new and need a team in skype, we tell him theres an AKM and 4 mags here in the corner for him and that he should add my skype once hes looted it. He comes into the hanger and as he's looking around and typing something, we blow him away and enjoy his M4 CCO and mags. Felt awful about it, but he didn't complain.

Second; around 45 minutes later two guys met up at the NW Airfield fire house to bandage and give each other transfusions, after conversations about how I've got them food/ammo and supplies and that I'm headed toward them, they stick around and wait for me in hopes of me bringing them all these goodies I falsely promised them. I tell them to add my staem [fake steam name given] then I crawl through the backdoor and light them both up with my newly acquired M4. Once again, felt awful, but I've got 15 mags for the M4 now and considering it was my partners first time playing, he's also tooled up to the teeth.

Y'all got any stories of how you've used side chat to your advantage in situations like this?

Back in the days of 'Survivor vs Bandit' - I turned into a bandit after several instances of self-defence against survivors. Needless to say, I embraced being a bandit for a few days and lulled one chap into a sense of security - without showing my true colours for about an hour or so. Just so happens we met one of his pals, who was armed with an AK. At this point, I decided it was crunch time, proceeded to unload some rounds here and there, and obtain said AK.

Social engineering works, but it's really horrible at the same time. I'm now a Samaritan.

I can`t play like this, backstabbing people like that :)

I try to help people i come across but most people just kill you ^^. I just move on and the next time i still do the same - Help people (and I probably get killed again).

So many ways to play this game, this seems to be my way :)

I don't think that telling someone that you are friendly and then shooting them in the back counts as "social engineering". It's just being a dick :p

But these different social situations that happen in game are always fun.

Today I was in the big red warehouse next to the military camp at Stary, this dude asked for friendlys in Stary and of course I said yes, I proposed we loot the tents together and we "agreed" to meet at the far side of the tents.

Waited a minute then proceeded to shoot him to shreds while he waited for me to come.

Felt bad but then again if your willing to walk out into the open and reveal your position on side channel then you deserve to get shot.

This guy said he was brand new and needed a blood transfusion. So I said I would give him one if he gave me one. I lured him into the church in Cherno. he stopped at the door aimed at me I told him I wouldnt shoot him. 5 seconds later I put two 12 gauge slugs in his head. Checked his gear noob my ass. He had a czech pack, a map, compass, watch, matchbox. winnie, revolver, and 4 blood packs. No0l3 my ass!!
