Obsolescence 129 Posted August 27, 2012 I'd like it if the zeroing system were improved. I see one of two posssibilities as being the best way to change the current zeroing system...1) Add an animation to changing the zeroing on a rifle, 3 - 5 seconds long, which takes the player out of their scoped view, allowing the target an chance to escape sight.2) Manual Zero'ing - Hard-core players will love this. Instead of the zeroing settings being automatic, force players to actually zero their own scopes/sights manually. This adds danger because they will have to fire their weapon several times to get the zeroing accurate which could draw attention. It also makes each weapon a little more personal because when you pick one up you won't know what it is zero'd to automatically.

Though I do like the manual zeroing idea, it's a small immersion thing, and let's be honest, most people don't have rangefinders to even know the distance to a target so developing a 'he's this big in my scope, so I think he's about this far away' skill would be valued. JamesR 74 Posted August 27, 2012 Doesn't take 3-5 seconds to turn the knob on the scope. As for manual zeroing how would that work one push on the button = one click on the scope turret?
bobstefanio 24 Posted August 27, 2012 The zeroing taking 3-5 seconds is not practical the chance to snipe someone is generally a very small window unless there standing still in inventory or sniping themselves. Basically adding this animation you suggest is a way for you to try and stop snipers all together if you have ever tried sniping even zeroing the way it is takes time as you have to jump out of scope mode go into rangefinder and jump back into scope mode again.Yes you can set an area you are looking towards and try and remember 10 to 20 different distances based on different objects but that's down to people being quick and having a good memory. So I would think that sniping is quite decent at the moment. I generally don't get killed by a sniper unless im standing still looting and now a days i know where the snipers hid and what they can see so I will just run through these areas and they will rarely ever hit me a few have come close bullet impacts in the dirt around me but nothing to threatening. grezvany13 56 Posted August 27, 2012 I guess you've never used a sniper scope (with zeroing) in real life, since you can do it with a simple knob which takes less then a second to do.And when you have a rangefinder (or play at a Recruit server) you can see the distance to the target, so no need for "manual zeroing".By default the scope is set to n meters (eg. 300m), which is normal in real life too. So by turning the knob to the left or right it also increases/decreases the zeroing with fixed steps (depends on scope). The current system is as realistic as it can get. And although an animation would be nice (another "movement" which can be spotted), your ideas won't make it more realistic at all. It only makes it harder for those who already have a hard time playing this game (since they haven't played the A2 training...)
Frozen (DayZ) 144 Posted August 27, 2012 well since scopes in this game allow you to zero with interval of 100m, i believe, the scope was already zeroed to certain amounts of positions, and thats why its so easy to zero it. and it seems to be fine BUT there should be no info about zeroing on the HUD. there should be an option to check zeroing which after 1-3 sec(depending on weapons weight, would be actual really nice to have animation for it) will show zeroing on your scope. Obsolescence 129 Posted August 27, 2012 Y'all know you don't have to change the zero'ing for each and every shot, right? Normally I leave my AS50 to 400m and just adjusted my aim rather than zeroing unless I'm going for 700m+ I don't see what is wrong with requiring a tool to change the zeroing on a gun (depending on scope) or forcing people to leave scoped mode to change it.Adjusting your aim is what you do on the fly, while shooting.Adjusting your zeroing is what you do in-between shooting events.Even a 1 second animation to adjust zeroing would incentivize this.
