Hosting own server...

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I have played some DayZ now and would really like my own server. But....

The youtube tutorials looks so deficult. I'm good at computers (hardware and stuff) but not scripting, moving files etc. I've heard that you can get others to host your server but You have the control over the server.... any ideas? Or is the complicated way the only way?

Best regards.

You will need to rent Data centre capacity or co-locate in a data center. I have tried to host a DayZ server from a spare server I have in my garage. 2x Xeon E5445, 16gb, 100Mbit U:D connection. My request for an instance ID was refused with the explanation:

"Due to the demanding nature of hosting a DayZ server, it is required that the server is a dedicated server, not a home PC, and that it's hosted in a datacenter with at least 100Mbps dedicated bandwidth."

I do now host a private hive with no problems at all but they do mean it when they state that it is CPU and Bandwidth intensive you can expect a 40 slot instance to use 2tb of bandwidth in a month, and all the cores of the server CPU's are seeing good utilisation.
