Question about multiple computers w/ same CD key

Hey all, I'm new to the game and loving it. However, I have a question about having multiple computers with same CD key. I have a shared Steam account with my cousin and am curious as to what would happen if he logs in in Arizona. I know we cannot be on the game at the same time, but, if he logs in when i'm not on will he be playing my character on his computer or will it be a seperate character? I don't fully understand if my character is saved on my hard drive or that information is stored elsewhere. Thanks in advance,

he will be playing your character, it's a global save not related to your hard drive, however sharing your steam account violates steam terms and conditions
