My take on Dayz, random thoughts from a new guy.

Recommended Posts

I just downloaded and setup dayz last weekend. I got to play a little, but my weeks are busy and the weekends are the only time I have for losing myself in a 6 pack and video games. I have spent this last week lurking around these forums and watching some great dayz vid, I have to hand it to the Dayzguidz.....guy....every time I thought of a question you had a easy to comprehend guide for it, my first beer this weekend will be a toast to you.

So, I think I am set to roll some dayz madness this weekend. Everything is setup up and running ok. At first I had the play six thing, big thanks to the guy who posted the link for dayzcommander in the protips thread, love it and suggest it.

I have seen alot of hate on these forums between bandits, survivers, and snipers. Alot of differnt opinions on shoot first or yell friendly. Help others or everyman for him/herself. Carebear or leet omg I OWNZU! And it struck me, what makes dayz work is all of the above smashed together on one little map. You all need each other and most of you don't even realize it.

Look at any zombie game, movie or tv show. You have of course the zombie's, provided by the game. You have folks just trying to survive, living off what they can find. Some try to help others, some just look out for themself. Some live off others, hunting them down. Some have lost their mind and hang out on roof tops plucking off any poor sap that comes along. Some are scared and do stupid shit like run headlong into the barrel of a shotgun with nothing more than an axe.

Rocket...thats the guys "name" right?....put all these elements together, but instead of just throwing in a bunch of boring, predictable and stupid npc's (cept for zeds of course) he trusted us to fill those roles. I'm just some guy who likes to think he has it all figured out, so I could be wrong, but I think thats the bread and butter of this game. Everything just looks briliant so far....but.....I have to ask....WTF? I am dying of thirst while standing in a pond...For the life of me I cant figure out how to cup some water in my hand and bring it to my mouth OR just dunk myself and open my mouth...nope I need a canteen or I will die. LOL! Seriously whose idea was that? Just thought that was funny.

Anyways, just thought I would throw all that out there. My play style is more in line with the suviver so....while I belive all you bandits and snipers are a key part of the game, you all can fuck off and die :) no hard feelings. If I'm in your cross hairs then take the shot...I'll know better next time.

I think you really hit the nail on the head with this post, love it!

I agree about the needing a canteen to drink, that's a little silly, but I dont know if the ARMA II engine can allow for just scooping up the water. I'm not savy with the engine though, that is more for the developers to look at.

I definitely agree. Without bandits the game would be a pretty linear experience and get boring fast. We need them to keep us on our toes and like you said versing AI doesn't compare to human enemies...

The only thing I dislike in this game is when people get geared and then go noob slaying when it really doesn't benefit them. That's lame...

You should remember that the DayZ mod as-is now is a modification of the bits and bytes that created ArmA 2 and ArmA 2: OA. This means the DayZ mod has quite the limits. Alot of these things could (and perhaps will) be realized in the standalone game where Rocket creates (what i think) his own 'script' for the game and programs the most of the code himself/by others and isn't just copied form ArmA 2, therefor allowing things to happen in the standalone game that can't be done so easily in the mod.

Yup. I got all that. The water thing isn't a complaint, just cracks me up. And I understand many changes are on the way. I look forward to all of it.
