Zombie : Player Ratio

Okay so i'm positioned on top of a large building in cherno with a sniper.

I am looking around for players.

Here's my question:

I believe that the number of zombies in an area is reflective of how many players are in that area or nearby.

For example; there are 20 zombies in north cherno = 3-4 players there. 0 zombies in south cherno meaning there are 0 players there.

IS this correct? If so then surely this is a great trick for snipers : watch the zombie infested areas.

This is how most snipers in the game identify whether or not a player is in a big city, but one person can spawn more then 20 zombies on himself.

it seems like they spawn if you make loud noise. i've been in a server that had 4 people on it and at one point there were over 140 Zs listed alive in the debug window.

once I saw scoping out stary Sobor from the west side of town (sort of close to the store). I noticed that I caused the zombies to spawn on the west side of town but not the east. I was eating some food so I was just laying prone when I noticed that the zombies on the other side of town spawned. I drew up my binoculars and saw someone raiding the military tents shortly after

Yes, to zombies spawn when a player is in a designated area. The count is random. I ran into the industrial side of Elektro on a server with 0 zombies and spawned 6, but then on another server logged in near the east fire station in Elektro and spawned 14 zombies. I think its randomized based on the buildings. Here is some helpful info:

Click on a building in the map and it will tell you the zombie spawn chance per area.

also, i'm pretty sure zombies only spawn within a 200m radius of you as well.

Another reason there should always be a few zeds wandering around, snipers sit outside that zone and know your there just because the zeds spawn. It's a little unfair imo. If there was always a few zeds then it wouldn't be such a give away.

Yea, I have tested this. Just over 200m is the spawn distance. So it's like 200m - 215m to spawn zombies.

Zeds spawn within a range of players. I reckon that if a player is in an area for a certain amount of time then he should eventually draw zeds, no matter how far from a city he is.

This would certainly make the griefer's lives a wee bit more difficult.

There should also be hordes. If you draw the attention of one zed for too long then the building you are hiding in then becomes a target for other zeds and dead players should attract more zeds. All that lovely fresh blood. Yum!

It would definitely make looting more of a challenge.

Mostly been said already but I'd like to add my 2 cents.

For the standalone game I'd like to see the Zed spawn on player functionality removed. Instead I'd like to see Zeds permanently milling about urban areas and groups of Zeds having a stroll around rural areas. Perhaps even the odd lonewolf Zed in the countryside (looking for livestock) to keep you on your toes. I'd also like to see them wondering around the outskirts of an urban area. That would prevent spotters finding survivors on the basis of Zed spawn and would make snipers nervous about their position. Unpredictability is essential I think.

Depends on performance though I guess.

hm, i think it is a bit more than 215 m, around 300 m for me..But they are making the radius bigger since earlier DayZ versions...

yes, that infected spawning gives a unfair advantage, coz u can be stealthy as a cat, but i still know u r somewhere in that village... and i have just to watch from which side infected are disappearing and so know in which direction a player went..
