pjano 34 Posted August 23, 2012 Here's my 2 cents of how we can stop the hackers completely: bring in VAC bans. That will fuck them up permanently (at least do this in the stand alone please)

theharibokid1@live.co.uk 10 Posted August 23, 2012 vac bans are unreliable, its easy to avoid them plus that would mean making dayz a valve game and vac is a valve product. The best anti cheat is punk buster but i wouldnt even suggest using that. once the games gone stand alone battle eye will be able to run it as a separate game and will build its own database instead of a amra 2 database. grezvany13 56 Posted August 23, 2012 The anti-cheat is not the problem (BattlEye is the best available), the problem right now it the engine.ArmA2 is designed to be open for mods and custom scripts, therfor it's very easy to run custom stuff in DayZ which never can or will be be detected by anti-cheat systems. So please give one reason why another anti-cheat will work...- PunkBuster can by bypassed with 3 lines of code- VAC is most famous for wrong bans, just because of a little mistake at an update- hundreds of other systems which don't work or can't be used with the VR engine...
Thadeum 103 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) VAC is indeed published by Valve, but implementing it would not make your product a Valve product. This is just like saying this would make your game a punkbuster product. However, the way I see it is that most cheatings are due to :- unfiltered commands/scripts can be executed by random people- weakly secured console servers- calculations done client-side instead of server-side- aimbots and network/CPU manipulation softwares (the real thing that is hard to fight against)99% of the cheats used today on the game are due to the first three issues. This is something that does not require any anti cheat solution at all, just more attention from the devs. For example actually the zombies pathfinding is calculated client-side and your zombies positions is sent to the server then to other players (this is why you see some zombies lagging if they are not for you). This is something that could be cheated on, so, for example, a player could simply remove the zombie threat for him client-side.*With better algorithms (probably requiring a rewrite of important code parts) it should be possible for the server to calculate all of the zombies positions and pathfinding, even if there are 200 or 300 zombies around. Maybe not in the current game state, due to the way the landscape is managed by the server (which I have no clue of), but theoritically possible. This is just an example as I never saw a zombie cheat, but it is client-side, so it could happen. Edited August 23, 2012 by Thadeum
sonicrainbrony 136 Posted August 23, 2012 Please tell me how VAC will solve our problems.
Frozen (DayZ) 144 Posted August 23, 2012 vac wont do shit, because scripting is NOT RESTRICTED by the arma 2 itself. its like crying that you`ve got killed in elektro - we are all know that its bad, but its not restricted.
