Suggestions for raiding Stary for new player?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I've been playing DayZ solo for just under a week now and have finally sussed most of it out. Rather than hanging around the coast I've looted a Winchester, lots of ammo, meds and stuff to survive in the wild (water bottle, knife, matches, etc). Now I'm outside Stary on the North side and plan to go in tonight and loot the army tents, etc. I figure I'm probably not going to last 10 mins but wondered if anyone has any advice on where to check for snipers, other players and the best way to approach without being seen, etc. The one thing I don't have is binoculars which would probably help quite a bit.

Meh hills right on top of the tents are mostly where snipers and people are if there camping it.

Jumping to a low pop server from another is an exploit and is technically server hopping. Find a spot where you can see stary from +500 meters away and look for zombies. If there are none (means no player is there) you have a small window in which to raid the tents. Dont stop moving outside of the tents incase of snipers.

tbh if your north of Stary you may as well bypass it and head for the Airfield, better loot and more of it with arguably less risk, there's plenty of cover around the southern barracks and very easy to access. The northern barracks are exposed to the west but if your carefull you can sneak in and out at night. There's also the hangers and ATC if your feeling brave :D

Cool, cheers - I could go to the Airfeild but figured it'd be riskier and I only have a shotty. My plan was to get an AR from Stary and then think about further North. However, all the Youtube vids I've seen bar one had Stary looking like a risky place to raid with teams working together. Not good for the solo player. I'll probably watch it for a bit and move off if there's groups of bandits about.

I have been killed more times at stary than i can remember so I only loot there if I'm returning from northern camps. If its gear your after, i would suggest stocking up on food and water and trekking the hills in search of camps. Use the map to locate what you would consider a 'safe' area to pitch and head for it via waypoint/gps or plain old map reading.

Tents tend to be better stocked than stary too, but be cautious of players guarding them.

There's snipers at every hill, really, there's no need to say that they're only at the one close to the tents.

Just do a quick patrol around the hills, I'd say.

Well I join a new server EVERYTIME I do a Zombie infested survival training. I dont have a favorite one as of yet and I would NOT call that an exploit...

Regarding the question:

If possible I would suggest you hop in to play at your personal nighthours. I usually find the most enjoyable ppl are online at times where most ppl sleep...especially children :P So go in from about 1am-5am, low pop server, you propably wont even see anyone and can get in and out in no time, easy as cake.
