Check your firewall to make sure it isn't blocking steams key activation request. If it's not that steam may have temporarily run out of keys (not that common but happens every now and then- usually sorted out within 24hrs).

Before running DayZ you must first run ArmA2: Combined Operations with Steam to set the CD keys.

After that you can play DayZ all you want.

What firewall are you using would be a good start, more info please :)

Also just to check, you are trying to run Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead first right? Not just jump straight into DayZ?

I havent used norton before but this should help: http://www.solveyour...ewall-settings/

Just add steam to "allow"

Fortunately my firewall gives me a request popup for new internet activity, so its a lot easier to set.

Apparently Norton 360 can be a bit oversensitive at times (still doesnt guarantee that this is the problem though, admittedly)

This just happened to me aswell, when buying my second arma 2 key. After some googling it seems like Steam is out of keys. Should resolve itself in 24 hours. If not, make a ticket.

Thanks but unfortunatly its not helping...ive been at this non stop all day! From what I have read a the likely problem is there are no CD keys (which steam SHOULD tell people before they buy the game, because I could have got both games cheaper if i just went to my nearest Game).

It does suck a bit, thankfully it doesn't happen too often. It's a pity BIStudios have stopped selling the Steam version on their website (I got mine for £15 in BIS sale, now its £20- still cheaper than steam).

CD Keys are issued with many third party games. In many cases, Steam will display your CD Key when you first launch your game. If your game launches and asks for a CD Key you do not have, please try the following:

  1. Right-click on the game in the Library tab and select View Game CD Key. This option is not available for all Steam games and a CD Key is not required for all games.
  2. Verify your GCF files. Follow the directions in the Verify Integrity of Game Cache section of the Verify Game Cache Files (GCF) article.
  3. For Windows Vista users, follow the directions under Try Running Steam as Administrator in the Windows Vista Troubleshooting article. Then, verify your GCF files again and test the issue.
  4. For Windows XP users, on rare occasions you may need to properly set registry permissions:

  • Exit Steam.
  • Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK".
  • Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE
  • Right click and select "Permissions"
  • Check the boxes for "Admin" and "System" to "Full control" and "Read".
  • Restart Steam and then verify your GCF files again.

There is no reason I should have to do ^ because I my game has been registered and installed ( and playing ) since July. This just happened yesterday and apparently a few people have been affected by it. But I went ahead and all those items were already checked off.

That means it is somewhere on Steam or BIs end where they disabled a bunch of CD keys on accident.

Have to ask....running Steam as Admin?

Always. Computer is set up for one account, mine. Still doesn't explain why it would do this after working since July just fine. I don't know of you saw my other post but CD key works now.

Logged on earlier and was able to play just fine. No idea what happened, none of my tickets were answered ( still open ). Maybe it was a database issue for the keys on their end
