There is hope...

Recommended Posts

Today, I was wandering around on the coast with only a rusty axe after being mercilessly murdered by bandits. As I was walking through a small village on the way to any big city I could find, a random ghille suited man rises from the ground. Terrified by the possibility of a bandit, I ready my axe to strike. He shouts friendly, but now those words mean nothing in dayz. I reply, but all the time I am suspicious of a possible ambush. He advances, his body half invisible from the camouflage he wears. As he starts to talk to me, I hear a distinct European accent, possibly Russian. He explains that my lack of a real weapon is the reason for his abstinence of violence. He asks me if I would like a ghille suit. I eagerly reply yes, and then suddenly my suspicion takes over. I ready my axe for an impending attack, but instead of shooting me, he drops a small brown parcel on the ground and walks away from it. I advance, almost resigned to the fact that he must be playing with me, toying with my hopes. I expect to feel a bullet pierce my skull, yet instead, nothing. I pick up the parcel, a ghille suit, one of the rarest loot finds. I eagerly put it on, as it is my first ever ghille suit. The Mysterious Russian, whom at this point I had forgotten about, asks if I would like a weapon. I dull my natural instinct to mistrust this figure in green, I instead thank him for the suit, and ask if I may have the gun. He lowers his silenced M4 onto the ground, along with ten magazines. I quickly pick up my new toy, enjoying my advanced military weapon after spending twenty minutes with a crude hatchet. I notice he pulls out a second M4, explaining to me how he has a camp stocked full of gear with his friends. I thank him for the gun, and ask him if he has any room for an extra team-mate. He chuckles with his deep voice, and explains that he doesn’t have room. I silently revel in my fortune, when the Mysterious Russian looks into the woods and suddenly mentions that his friend is coming. I turn, this time without fear or apprehension. From the trees and foliage emerges another heavily armed ghille suited man. He greets me and his friend quickly, too quickly for my ears to catch an accent. They move closer to each other, while I lower my gun in respect. They start to scan the area, and I realize that I have stumbled upon their territory. Their confidence in their movements and from the way they let me walk around without scanning for hidden snipers tell me that they are regulars to this area, probably scanning for threats or wanderers such as myself. I thank them both for the kindness they showed me and asked I could depart. The Mysterious Russian, the most talkative of the group, says I may leave without worry. I quickly shuffle out of town, watching as they both disappear into trees and grass. I disconnect from the server, amazed at my luck, and quickly summarize the encounter to my friend. As I recite the story, I am filled with hope. Dayz as I had known had become a barren waste filled with treacherous bandits and snakes, yet these men showed me otherwise. Their generosity without asking, and for a complete stranger, was mind blowing. I knew then that people with kindness were out there. Behind the monitors that controlled the characters were humans, kind, caring, considerate. Not everyone was only playing for themselves. And it inspires me. It makes me want to help others, and not just players in the game. I want to help those in real life as well, for good deeds should not just be virtual. I have withheld information about the server for the safety of the people who helped me in my time of need. And I apologize to forum admins if this was placed in an improper section; I was just too rushed to post my experience.

Thank you, Mysterious Russian.

Great story, wish I had your luck. The only friendlies I find are in the south and they are as desperate and poorly equipped as me lol.

You have some writing skills mate.. even if it's all in black

Also yesterday after a long time I stumbled upon friendly survivor near Cherno, we had a good talk, showed him an ATV I was trying to fix up. Then we parted as my mates were heading to pick me up with a choppa.

For lazy ones:

This happens all the time, most 'survivors' don't allow themselves to experience it because they are infected with a zombification of the soul, parroting the mantra "don't trust anyone" and killing on sight. Too afraid to let go of the illusion of control they spiral into paralyzing suspicion and paranoia, but hope springs eternal.

I love your wall of text especially when it's in that extremely small font.
