Brutal-Hunter 5 Posted August 23, 2012 Straightforward question. How often do items respawn in dayz?
chipdemon@yahoo.com 57 Posted August 23, 2012 I think the loot despawns after a couple of hours, then another pile can respawn in its place if someone comes near. If you pick up a loot pile and dump it somewhere, more can spawn on that spot within about 10-15 minutes.
slartibartfast (DayZ) 77 Posted August 23, 2012 Chipdemon is correct.Empty your selected spawn site of EVERYTHING. Go away, at least 120m, for ten to twenty minutes and you will have shiny new spawns.Or, if you log on inside a normally active building spawn site that now appears empty. Just go for a quick perimeter run and by the time you return there will be spawns.
sonicrainbrony 136 Posted August 23, 2012 (edited) Well, seems like those are pretty emptying answers, not much I can say.Well actually I can say something: Don't use that information to server hop for loot. Edited August 23, 2012 by SonicRainbrony
Delta Smoke 01 765 Posted August 23, 2012 If your playing an official server loot will respawn in 2/3 minutes after the ground is cleared. Just make sure you move atleast 50 meters from the site.
venthos 605 Posted August 23, 2012 I think the loot despawns after a couple of hoursThis is a common misconception. Loot never despawns. However, loot does not persist through server restarts. Therefore, every time a server restarts there are then NO loot spawns in game, and they'll spawn for the first time when a players gets within proximity (within a few hundred meters, but no closer than 50 meters) of those loot spawns. Because most servers have scheduled restarts every few hours, this is where that misconception stems from that loot despawns on its own.For servers with infrequent restarts (24+ hour intervals), this is why you end up running into entire areas of towns being full of only tin cans and whiskey bottles. Most people won't clear loot spawns to cause fresh spawns, they'll just move along.

It makes loot a little more valuable and seem more like a real world situation. I mean, gear does not just randomly appear all the time in the real world but it still has to eventually to keep the game going.Perhaps the 24 hour restart would be similar to people camping in houses and leaving remains or something...
