Best thing i have seen to combat hacking *Lock Your server Admins*

Was on a server last night and after the server reached a good amount of players for a period of time, the admin locked the server so nobody else could join. This was the single longest period i had played Dayz without getting hacked in about 3 weeks.

Even if you don't agree with this method, the message is clear at this point. We need to police our servers our selves and do it by whatever means it takes. No its not going to be full proof but i believe it is a more viable solution that can be taken now, rather than praying for something to happen.

Locked servers are to be reported to help keep abuse down. Dunno how well it'd go over. Even locking a full 40/40 server could be abused with a large enough clan or organized group of people.

i know its against the ToS, but i give me beans to that server admin..

putting up a wall to block out cheaters/hackers, is necc. at this point..

even if it does prevent some honest players from getting in.. until theres a shortage of servers for honest players i have ZERO problem with this tactic..

Wow, I suddenly feel like we're talking about immigration law. The problem here is all it takes is somebody to report that server and it'll be blacklisted, then your safe haven is gone. It's an interesting gesture and a potential step in the right direction, but I fear it'll be all in vain.

Seems like the only way at this point to allow people to play without worry. Yes, I understand why it shouldn't be allowed (in a normal game, with a normal level of hackers). But the fact is there isn't a normal amount of hackers in DayZ, it's totally out of control, and there's no way to fix it really. So the server owners have to take it in their own hands, we've been forced to this drastic decision, better to risk blacklisting than have your server be emptied every few hours by hackers anyway.

If Rocket is willing to promote private hives as being a way to combat hacking, i'd like to think him still collecting data on HIS hive is still a good solution. At this point he doesn't even really need much data anymore as he is headed to standalone, so why not let us enjoy what we can with what we can do about the problem. Nobody else is going to fix this issue except the players themselves.

Because the standalone isn't out yet. He's already been on record about not caring what happens people do with the mod after the standalone's release. He'll leave the mod up to the community, allow them to support it, polish it up. From a business standpoint, he's trying to keep people from being alienated and such by the mod until the standalone is released and he can exert a little more control over that game.

Let's not alienate them but instead show them a hacking experience? Have you not seen the active player base drop as it is? You act as if every server would be locked out from all other players. I am simply stating that if your server reaches a stable amount of players lock it until the player base drops off a bit. Other serves will still be around for people to jump in and join. There is an abundance of serves as it is currently that never even reach full status.

I understand your point but I just fear that as more locked servers appear, script kiddies and new players will get shunted into the other servers. And as for population drop off, I'm sure that doesn't have anything to do with school starting up or a mildly buggy patch. All I'm saying is, locking some servers when they're full isn't the /only/ solution, and might cause more problems.
