You should consider getting Teamspeak, bud. You can type on it. It doesn't really require a mic, its more like a chatroom. It is free software and works really well with DayZ.

If you don't use a mic in DayZ, you better be prepared to get shot in the face for not responding fast enough. Seriously, get a mic. Even if it's a shitty mic from a dollar store, not playing with a mic is silly.

I just bought a G330 of newegg for cheap and the mic is very clear! I talk to my friends through Vent (vent voices only go through the headset) but I got shot a few times for typing to slow

Can't go wrong with a cheap mic. If someone doesn't respond to me when I bump into them around town, I consider that to be unfriendly. The only way around it is to hotkey salute and hope no one shoots on sight.
