What causes lag?

I experience some lag while in the cities like elecktro and cherno. For example all the way to the city I would get 40-60 fps, once I hit the outside of the city, bam, 21 fps.

I have came up with many theories as to why you can lag. Here they are.

-You may be using version 1.6.0.1, which means that zombie bodies will not disappear once they are killed. Same for human player corpses as well.

-You may not have a good enough system.

-You are in a large city, such as Cherno or Elecktro, both of which house lots of zombies.

-You are on a 1.7 server, but you don’t have the latest Beta ArmA 2 patch.

-Code for the zombies and loot is taking up too much cpu/gpu resources, which can be fixed easily.

The last one is actual the more logical reason as to why you will lag. I joined a server without any zombies, the server files were not working and there was no loot either, but basically while they were away, I got a constant 60fps (had v-sync on)

CPU= i7 950 @ 3.4Ghz

RAM= 6GB

MB= X58 Sabertooth

PSU= Corsair 850W

I think that the devs should focus on the coding for the zombies before make unnecessary changes e.g. the bandit skin change and stuff.

Don't argue that you get lag from zombies because there are soo many on the server. No that is incorrect, I have found that a server with only 97 zeds, gives me exactly the same lag as a server with 500.

Therefore I bring it down to the coding of the zombies. The next patch (1.8 or whatever) should focus on updating the zombie and loot coding and make sure that they do not take unnecessary cpu/gpu resources.

This is not a rant, but rather advice for players that experience lag so it may help the a little bit and for help for the devs and what I think they should work.

My fps drops as well, i get 60+ outside and 30-50 in towns.

The zombie numbers shouldn't be a problem unless the 500 zombies are in one place or in your 500m sight range, your specs looks more than fine, so i guess this has to do with the poorly optimization that was done by boehmia.

If you don't care about the graphics you could probably get some more FPS if you mess with some of the settings (there are some good optimization threads in armaholic) but yea i also payed for a high end pc to be able to play games at full res, especially 2 yeras old game.

I think the lag is more of the fact that the 300 or 400 zombies are always doing something which takes up resources. For me that should be fixed so that they will do less when the player is not arround them. Haha I changed my settings from high to very low... got an extra 4fps.. woohoo

I have 25 fps outdoors, 5-15fps in cities with low settings... now thats what the hell? i get 20-30 fps in Battlefield 3 everywhere on a 64 player server with medium settings... explain me, someone, please.
