gmx21 8 Posted June 10, 2012 So the biggest problem in the game apart from disconnecting to avoid death is using "ghost" tactics. What that means (for those who dont know) is that a player can get into a firefight on one server, remember position of his opponent, then switch to another server to flank him or get behind his back, come back to original server where he started a fight and shoot his opponent. So my idea on how to avoid this is to implement random spawning inside radius of about 500 m from position you last disconnected from. This would make it impossible for exploiters to plan their attack on different server and could possibly lead them in more trouble if they do use it. Thoughts? dale0404 16 Posted June 10, 2012 500 m is to big mate, 150m is good enough. Also change the azimuth of the player.

mattyh1995 1 Posted June 10, 2012 500 m is to big mate' date=' 150m is good enough. Also change the azimuth of the player.[/quote']I'm behind this suggestion. Only thing it needs is 'dead zones' or whatever you want to call them. Like if you log off in a safe location just outside a town/built up zombie infested area, you wouldn't want to spawn in the middle of it would you?
BL1P 252 Posted June 10, 2012 Only one character per server. There ya go I fixed the server swap problem.and what if the server is full ?-----------------You play one of your other characters on another serverOr start a new char on a server you haven't played onOr wait for you favorite server
ikaiyoo 1 Posted June 10, 2012 I have been in plenty of firefights where the person logs to ghost. If I see the person I am shooting at disappear I move to another position. Unless you are a DWaG sitting at the stairs at a castle or camping a loot spawn or hospital in a city this shouldnt be an issue. And if you are in a firefight with someone and stay static for the time it takes them to log relog into another server flank you log and relog back into your server and get the jump then you deserve to die. and if you are a DWaG sitting at the top of the stairs or camping a loot spawn then you probably deserve to die then also. So I dont exactly see the issue in someone ghosting. It shouldnt actually be a problem at all except to DWaG's and well their opinion is forfeit anyways. bemurad 0 Posted June 10, 2012 its not that hard to kill ghosters. there is usually a 5-10 second timer when they hit the lobby that their character is already in the game but they are not. We have killed several ppl like this before. they try and act up on us and get frickin killed
Dinnj 4 Posted June 10, 2012 I don't think it's about whether or not you can find a way to beat the exploit, it's about that you can use such an exploit in the first place. Good idea OP.
Sarissofoi 40 Posted June 10, 2012 Only one character per server. There ya go I fixed the server swap problem.This.This solve many things. No more ghost tactics. No more hoppers farming loot.No more jumping beetwen servers.New swerver - new character. No more jumping beetwen tents on difrent servers. No more uber geared clan members coming from their server to make rampage and mayhem over other servers population.Really simple answer. ikaiyoo 1 Posted June 10, 2012 Its also a problem when someone spawns into the building your in behind you.And its a problem that the ghost thing is even posible. If you are in a firefight with someone and are in a building and they disapear and log out... MOVE. It isnt rocket science they didnt kill you you didnt kill them and they drop out. It takes what 1-2 minutes to log into a server. so you are talking 3-5 minutes for them log on another server maneuver around behind you and log back in? Why are you sitting in the same place for that long in the first place? Unless you are a DWaG and you are camping that spot there is no reason for you to even sit there. The enemy is gone. move out. And if you are a DWaG and are camping a building' date=' tower, staircase, etc. any argument you pose is invalid by the fact that you are camping that spot being a DWaG. I dont see the problem. If someone randomly spawns in the building you are in... then that is bad luck for you. But you cannot stop someone from finding a place of with cover and logging for the night so when they log back in they arent surrounded by zombies. It will always be a problem with a persistent character that spawns multiple servers.[hr']Only one character per server. There ya go I fixed the server swap problem.This.This solve many things. No more ghost tactics. No more hoppers farming loot.No more jumping beetwen servers.New swerver - new character. No more jumping beetwen tents on difrent servers. No more uber geared clan members coming from their server to make rampage and mayhem over other servers population.Really simple answer.Well that kind of kills the whole persistent character thing. right now you already get 1 character per game it is based off your CD key. you get one character for all the servers. unless you are talking each server has a separate character, and again that completely negates the need for a central DB. And causes the DB to have to track multiple characters for each player. their position, equiptment, etc. Which will put a strain on the system. And it gets away from the whole premise of the mod. nahaz 132 Posted June 10, 2012 I don't think one character per server is an entirely good idea, it could work (say, server hosts got their own database, but that means Rocket has to release it).Another way to solve it is to add a delay on logout/exit, say 10-30 seconds until your character disappears. Then it would be extremely risky for them to do so and you will have plenty of time to either catch them logging out and kill them or move away.
Horror 0 Posted June 10, 2012 So, a team of three has YOU pinned down in the castle, a barrack, any place that has one good way in/out, which is ideal for fighting most anyone. You can't move, and don't want to, as you have a "bunker" type setup and are ready for the fight if they bring it to you.One of them server jumps, repositions to assault you, and then logs back in. With metagaming, the timing of any delay is easily worked out, and the assault comes at you. What do YOU do? DC, and get ridiculed? Its a bad mechanic that needs some kind of fixing. moleculor 0 Posted June 11, 2012 Terrible idea. Just because someone spawns in a random location doesn't mean they can't still flank their opponent, and it doesn't solve the problem of magically disappearing from a room with only one exit.
