Tordenskiold 2 Posted August 20, 2012 I've played Dayz for a couple of months now, but never put my hands on a decent scoped gun. Yesterday i stumbled upon a tent with a AS50 with 10mags, ghillie and some other good stuff. My initial reaction was pure joy. I have heard about them and been killed by them numerous times. Finally it was my turn to be the hunter. With the possible excetion to sniping fresh spawns along the coast (something i will never do), i gotta say the sniping part is boring as hell. Its an awesome gun, but sitting in the same place waiting for a prey is really boring. I really dont get how people enjoy this. I like it close and dangerous if there is a shootout.
dcskill 117 Posted August 20, 2012 I'm sorry that sniping in this game is somewhat realistic. I'm deeply sorry, on everyone's behalf, that you can't 720-noscope ladder-stall YY wall-bang colateral headshot someone. If close encounters if your thing, stick to it. I love having shootouts in the middle of cities. :)

I like it close and dangerous if there is a shootout.you dontyou run the hills and look to see if zombies are spawned in towns (means someone is there ofc)or you fix a vehicle, drive around and look for zombies. once you find some; you drive to the closest hill and begin searching for the guy.or you just continue on with your daily grind and when you hear someone nearby you run for the hills and search for the annoyance. The True Nova 22 Posted August 20, 2012 Seriously, if your a lone player, your only use for a sniper is either sniping people in heavily populated areas or scanning the horizon. If you are playing with a group, your main role would probably be overwatch which is a lot more fun than just running around looking to kill people when you should probably try and avoid them. A9Carlos 3 Posted August 20, 2012 I found the same, Torden. Nothing better in this game that having a simple assault rifle and travelling to see what happens. Finding a sniper rifle is often what kills this game for me as I tend to stop playing it the way I like, simply because of the weapon I have! Dumb as hell
AG-D.Wright 56 Posted August 20, 2012 Sniping requires gratuitous amounts of patience. The map is huge and your best bet to getting kills is in Cherno or Elektro, obviously. But that also leaves you open to getting killed at any second. If you aren't a patient person, sniping probably isn't for you. I play with a couple people with ADD/ADHD, and they can't stand sniping. If waiting isn't for you, (Then day Z probably isn't for you considering the travel times,) I'd consider playing a bandit with an assault rifle, raiding airfields and large cities. magicool 115 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) No wonder it's boring for youlying on the coast an shoot fucking newspawners isn't intense and satisfying at allGo to Stary/NWA other crowded places with ppl who have more but a flashlightalso having sniper rifles doesn't mean "OH I HAVE A SNIPER RFLE NAO I HAVE TO LAY DOWN IMMIDATELY AND WAIT FOR PLAYERS TO SHOOT EM"as some ppl above said snipers rfles can be used for overwatchor counter sniping if getting attacked from distance Edited August 20, 2012 by Magicool

Not sure if serious. Now on the other hand, this is probably as realistic as it gets in a video game and can easily be put in dayz aswell (which they should). AG-D.Wright 56 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) It's more realistic then CS or COD but it's still too way too easy.COD and CS have very small maps. There is barely any long range sniping in that game. I hardly think that either one of those games is affected by wind or bullet drop either. Arma sniping is effected by both of those factors. It is easy at times, but there are points where sniping can be a real challenge in this game. dylang11 1 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) Sniping in Dayz is realistic? Not sure if serious.actually he said "somewhat" realistic. Implying that it may only be considered realistic in comparison. Edited August 20, 2012 by Dylang11
Sakeoe (DayZ) 115 Posted August 20, 2012 (edited) actually he said "somewhat" realistic. Implying that it may only be considered realistic in comparison. Adjectives are important when quoting. But it is not somewhat realistic either. Important to realise is that he, without explicitly saying so, is comparing it with other first person shooters (obvious cod, bf etc) saying those are even less realistic/easier than dayz. But what is the difference between sniping in Dayz and sniping in for example Battlefield, besides that in battlefield your rifle has a fixed zeroing so you raise your aim above a target when you know the distance and in DayZ you simply change the zeroing and keep your aim on the target?
