Day Z all but frozen, unplayable

I see a lot of posts about low FPS, but what I'm talking about is the game dropping to- literally- "seconds per frame" Until a couple of days ago this was hit or miss, now it does it all the time. When I did have it running, I played it on normal graphics settings just fine. My computers a couple of years old, but has reasonable specs.

I've tried the following, even the stuff I didn't think would help, just so I could say I did it (running V 1.7)-

Verified cache in steam.

Set all graphics settings as low as possible.

Logged on to multiple servers.

Downloaded the single player hack, and tried it that way.

Restarted the computer.

Run GameBooster.

Defragged my hard drive.

uninstalled and reinstalled the games.

I feel like I'm doing a rain dance. If the problem clears, I have no way to know if it was anything I did, or just blind luck.

I KNOW this is an alpha/work in progress, and I KNOW there are a lot of threads about low FPS. Does anyone know of a good fix or workarould for this problem?

This is a laptop that's a couple of years old. But it's a pretty beefy desktop replacement model. I was running this program pretty well for a week or two, with only occasional problems, so I don't think my hardware is to blame. But here are all (I think) the relevant specs.

Im actually using similar hardware to you blueparrot1966 except my problem is that when I eventually join the server, My character is frozen, I still have all my UI up but all my keys wont work such as movement ( prone, jump, etc..). All chat coms work though...

It sounds like your graphics card isn't turning itself on. Does it work in standard Arma 2?

Played the single player campaign for ARMA 2 and OA to understand how the controls work. The game ran smoothly

It was' date=' for a week or two. Arma 2 and Day Z both were playable. It turned into a "sometimes yes, sometimes no" thing, until a couple of days ago it became all the time.

I don't have problems with things like Fallout or Skyrim, so I know my card's working. How do I ensure it's playing well with Arma?

Does Arma II work? I found that now, with Arma II, or with the "Day Z single player" hack, I'm still freezing up, so I know it's not a connect or server problem.

Blueparrot: Dumb question, but are you using a pirated version of the game? ARMA 2 might be one of these games that degrades your play experience over time if you have a pirated copy.

2nd thing, as stated above, is the game using your graphics card(s)? I know on my Alienware laptop, I need to make sure I enable my graphics card in the BIOS, and then make sure I have "hybrid" graphics enabled in the nVidia control panel.

Also, add "-winxp" to your launch commands in your target line…this made DayZ use both my available GPUs, and not just one.

Try defragging your hard drive as well.

I just did a clean install of Arma II and OA, and I'm still having the problem on OA or Combined Ops, with NO Day Z content installed. Guess I'll go have a look on those forums and see what I can come up with.

As for the -WinXP fix, I've got a list of the statements I can use and what they do, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I literally can't remember the last time I spent so much effort futzing with a game to get it to work.

You can download a utility like GPU-Z to see if one or both of your GPUs are being used while DayZ is running. Also, the "-winxp" trick should make the game use both GPUs. This would be the first thing I would try...making sure the game is making use of all your graphics horsepower.

Arma II did work when I was doing single player but that was befoe I put DayZ... yet I havnt actually tried playing it once I have put the mod on... I have to try when I get home tonight...

If i was helping a m8 on team speak this is what i would tell them to do.....

clean Install arma2 and OA

run arma2 (open it - close it)

run oa (open it - close it)

You do this for the registrys

Install DayZ mod :-

Unrar or unzip DayZ mod into your amra2-OA root folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead

you should now have a folder in your arma2_OA root folder called @DayZ and inside that should be

.rsync folder

addons folder

and 3 .txt files

Sometimes it can unrar incorrectly and you will have @dayz folder then another @dayz folder in that then the .rsync and the addons folder

Make sure that the folder structure is @dayz then .rsync and the addons folders.

follow the instructons

In arma2 launcher that you just downloaded and installed do :-

In the Launch options tab at the top :-

Check path for arma II is right

Check path for arma II-OA is right

Check path for arma II-OA-BETA is right

check box for cpu count and select the amount

check box for run beta

Some people get better performance with the winxp box ticked

Unsure if the Max memory does anything now.

Myself I also check No splash and Default world empty.

In the addons tab at the top left do this :-

right click on the addons / mods in the right pannel

and create new group

rename group to dayz or something

drag the @DayZ from the left pannel into your new group

put a tick in all the little boxes on the right (Addon Groups)

you should have 3 ticks in the addons groups section

(addons /mods ticked , dayz group ticked , @Dayz ticked)

In the bottom right of the arma2 launcher drop down box Game Version

should be Arma II - CO

if it is press start game

Hope this helps....

Using the launcher is good for when you finally start playing arma2 without dayz (if you ever do)

Another good tool will be sixupdater when your at that stage

BL1P, thanks for the thorough reply. Believe it or not, I've actually done pretty much everything you recommend already. Bottom line is, getting this to work properly is hit and miss at best. I'm throwing in the towel. I've tried everything I can think of.

Life's too short, there are other games to play. Maybe when this is in a more finished state I'll have another look.

Ive done that what you have posted... Thing is... I have issue with the game stuck on Loading...

Now apperently the issue has been fixed but clearly not. 20mins later and im still Loading =( it's like this with any server I join =(
