A safer Chernarus (kind of...)

Recommended Posts

I have been playing DayZ a lot recently and dreaming up some ideas. I know a lot of you are VERY turned off by the thought of a no bandit DayZ because it is a core game play mechanic, but I would like you to keep an open mind for this one. Don't get me wrong, I love the bandit aspect of DayZ, but I think it would be cool to try out a all-survivor server.

However there is one big flaw with this idea...

Imagine if people did not, or could not, kill each other in DayZ anymore. What would they do? Explore? Get the best guns and vehicles? Stop playing? Most would probably do the latter. But for those who did stay, they would probably go out and explore every inch of Chernarus with a few random strangers. It would be entertaining and cool, but for how long? At some point, you would do every thing you have wanted to do. You will have flown the Helicopter back and forth of Chernarus. You will have conquered that castle in the middle of nowhere and made it your stronghold. You will have found those 15 Sachel Charges and used them all at once on one building just to see what happens. But then what?

With DayZ in its current form, we are all way to concerned with survival to think about anything else. But what if we were to take away that element of fear and add it with a new element of hope or determination? My thoughts are on this: A common goal all players on a server work to achieve. Something large and not easily done in a few days of work.

However at this point... I became stumped. The only real idea I had which would work somewhat interesting would be players working to take back Chernarus, City by city, castle by castle. Some could go out to farther north to harder areas (Such as the air force base) to collect more rare loot, while other smaller groups go and try to weaken a nearby city's zombie count. And maybe at night a server could have to deal with excess zombies who are more easily agitated. This would make players have to decide "Should we bunker down in our place with no lights and hope we are not found? Or should we cover our place in lights and hope we do not get swarmed by an amount we can not handle?".

This is just a thought I had. Obviously some things would still need to be thought out more (The whole random players joining any server, night and day cycles, etc...).However I think if we went away from the horrible "kill or be killed" theme and to a more positive "All for one and one for all" idea, some interesting things could happen. I apologize if this might be hard to read, I know if i put more work I could make this post more fancy with hidden spoiler boxes and what not. It would probably come across better, but I do not have that much time or focus. But what do you guys think? Does the idea of a server of just survivors sound good at all? And if so what common goal could these people strive towards?

Been suggested before... the only thing that would stop people hopping once they are "geared up" is to have two separate characters... one for the PVE servers one for PVP servers...

it could be good and PVP is the only thing that makes DayZ interesting tbh...if more zeds were added overall the game would be so different :)

Nice thought though...maybe expand your ideas when you got some time otherwise people will nit-pick and "HERRRRR YOU NO TALK BOUT DIZ! HERP A DERP!"

I had that thought as well. I definitely will keep thinking on it and when I have the time and energy propose a full blown idea. Good to know there are others thinking like me though...

If you browse forums you will find many similar proposed ideas, so read through them and try to be original otherwise people will ignore or give you butt hurt over "not using search tool DERP!" lol

Have fun o/

Some endgame material could be good, I know Rocket wants to introduce something for an endgame, there could be an extra "mode" that a server could activate which turns on endgame. ArmA 2 could come into its own here as a military simulator within DayZ. A scenario could be created where the military has fought the infection back across most of the world, and are pushing through the country, since Chernarus is on the coast, it is the last stand of the infected and the final location for the military to liberate.

Until then though, the pressure from the military on the country has forced a migration of infected to Chernarus, so the zombie count is off the scales, 6 - 7 times normal spawns everywhere.

Before the military can move in though, certain areas need to be liberated by ground forces first so the military can set up bases, and they need access to power. We are those ground forces. Elektrozavodsk needs to be liberated for the Power Station and docks, the N/W Airfield for a military stronghold, and the Krasnostav and Balota Airstrips are needed for further operations by the military. Chernogorsk for the Factory and docks again, Berezino for just another base camp. And I'm sure more areas could be thought of.

Once areas are liberated by survivors, zombies don't spawn inside anymore, but they need to be controlled, as zombies would approach from the outside. So it's a case of liberate and hold. Oh, and a military helicopter could fly over a liberated area and drop an ammo box, with plenty of every ammo. So you get a reward and it lets you keep using your best weapons instead of being forced to change to a weapon that has more plentiful ammo.

And once everywhere is liberated, the final location would be Green Mountain. Someone needs to go into the Radio Tower to contact the military. However, Green Mountain is overrun with zombies, the funny noises coming from there have attracted a horde. Looking at 50 - 100 zombies spawned inside and on the outskirts of the complex. Then once completed, the military moves in, so after a couple of minutes you hear/see helicopters and jets flying above, and each area would have something different at the end. Anywhere with a dock would have ships approaching. Airfields would be approached by helicopters and jets, and maybe a few tanks would roll out of the woods in every area.

Then, you win DayZ :D

An endgame that would take hours to complete on a server. And people would have different strategies, do you go for Elektro or Cherno first, having faith in your weapons and the amount of ammo you have on you, or do you go for the Balota Airstrip, liberate it for the ammo box and then use that to stage operations to take over Cherno and Elektro, people would do different things, people would group up, taking on a city alone would NOT end well. It would be fun :D

That's the sort of endgame I'd expect/want. That sort of makes sense. It would give everyone in the server a shared objective. And the ending would be a cinematic experience of the military moving into Chernarus, which ArmA 2 allows DayZ to do, you can go into the ArmA 2 Editor and probably create this scenario yourself to be honest, or any scenario.

Not this thread again...

The game you're looking for is Minecraft.

I really love the story aspect of that helicopter hunter! My only added thought would be instead of just adding more and more zombies, possibly make them stronger. Some more mutated one's that look drastically different and take much more shots to put down.

Also I thought of Minecraft when posting this Mr. mZLY. I did not mention it in my post but I know this idea/theme has been used or thought of quite a bit. That is why I asked for some other ideas besides taking back Chenrarus. I own and play Minecraft, I would not say Minecraft is not really like DayZ... At all... However in Minecraft there is not really an huge game goal except to get to the the Nether or "The End" and kill the dragon. Besides that the rest of the world is just for dinking around in and building.

Like I said though, I am still wondering if anyone else has a different idea for this no bandit mode.
