Harden the fuck up, dayz is tough. Takes me 5 mins to get a cyote back pack and a akm. No servers are noob friendly, my suggestion is to find somone to play with and stick with him, only way to learn is to play.

google search and download day z commander, it let's you search for day time only servers. As for your other problem, look up videos, on wiki, find friends or get your friends to get this. A good idea since you want a "easier experience" is looking for a low populated server so you can loot cities without having everyone out to get you. GB and DE servers are good for this.

A lot of US servers (if that is what you are connecting to) work off of real-time ... uh, time, offset by just a few hours (IE, a east-coast server might have its in-game time at 8 PM, whereas in the real world it is 10 or 11 PM.) Your best bet is to, indeed, get DayZ Commander and see about getting two or three servers to tick as favorite for different playing times - I have one that's UK for evening, and one that's US for afternoon. Nine times out of ten there's enough light for me to see by. Conveniently, DayZ Commander lists in-game time for some servers.

So far as finding people to play with... that's harder. If you don't have any friends RL that you can convince to buy the game and play the mod with, you might be in for a bit of a slog trying to find companions. According to the statistics I just pulled out of my ass, roughly 93% of the people you encounter will shoot to kill because either they think that doing so is funny and/or boss, or because they are terrified that YOU will shoot them first; 5% will say 'friendly' and mean it, but not be terribly interested in grouping up with a stranger in case you do want to shoot them in the back; and the last 2% probably would kick it with you for a time.

There are threads in the forums for hooking up with people to play with you in squads and so forth.

Look here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/7-dayz-general-discussion/

and here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/29-bandit-campfire/

Also, this cracked me up:

According to the statistics I just pulled out of my ass
