Firefight (long)

I'm in "I don't give a shit" mode. I'm crossing the fields East of Mogilevka right in the open, and I don't give a damn. A few minutes earlier I'd lost all my equipment to a damned zed. A fucking ZED! It shouldn't even be possible, but it happened. I even found an FN FAL, but never used it because I could only find one mag. I curse my luck. Then I wow to myself, "If I ever find such a gun again, I'm fucking gonna use it!"

Suddenly I hear shots from the village and my lust for life rushes back to me. I hunker down in the grass and make for the tree line. Somewhere accross that field is my cache of gear - my previous body.

As I try to stay covered several thought run through my head. "Are there more players around? Have they found the body? Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit!" I run for it. The shots keep coming. They're muted. Maybe a Winnie? Or a Dinner Bell from inside? I have no idea.

Once I get to the body, the shots have ceased. This makes me even more nervous, as - although it's beyond the slope down from the village and not far from cover - it's not actually in cover. I loot the body while wondering if he's gonna coming my way. While it's not the most direct route to popular Stary, it's a valid one if you want to stay away from contact. However, when two players think alike... I try to loot as quick as I can.

It seems everything is there, including the FN FAL. I sigh with relief and think to myself, "I should really get the fuck out of here, but..." I then proceed to drop my Winnie and equip the FN FAL. I've decided. It's time to go hunting. I quickly get into cover, and peruse my map.

I'm North East to Mog, down towards the rive valley with two ponds, but the best vantage point over the village is a wooded area directly North of the village. I decide it's safe to make a run for the tree line to my West, and then safely approach the vantage point throught the woods. Of course, if the other survivor chose to take the same route to Stary, I could expect contact sooner rather than later, but I took confidence in the likelyhood of having a much better weapon.

I move as quick as I can, but stop well ahead of the village to scout. I carefully position myself in some bushes to take a look, and soon I discover that it's dotted with little zeds, and it's not easy to know exactly where my foe is.

Suddenly I see something in the corner of my eye. A zed runs towards a pile of rubbish, so I concentrate my attention to that area. And wouldn't you know! A few seconds later I see a survivor sprinting right accross the field with at least three zeds after him.

Time is running out. He's getting closer and closer to that tree line down in the valley. I knew I'd loose him then, but then again, fireing from the current position is less than ideal. But he is slipping away from me, and I have no urge to chase him knowing he'd have cover down in the valley, so I decide to give it a shot - literally. I try to line him up and lead him a little, then I slowly pull the trigger.

BAM!

I'm surpriced at the sound my FAL makes. It's awesome. But I miss, so I try to lead him some more.

BAM!

This time he falls, or maybe he went prone? I seriously don't know, because at that very moment he hits the tree line and disappeares. I'm pretty sure he didn't disconnect, but not a 100 percent. In any case, I'm now left with a few options. I can either retreat, and mark it up as a waste of bullets, or take up the hunt.

I decide to do the latter, but in lieu of doing the former... I carefully move backwards from his position until I feel safe. Then I take a big U-turn around a little hill between me and him, coming out further North above the road running along it.

I know he's hiding in the small and wooded river valley, just down the slope of grassy fields. However, in front of it, is that damned asphalt road, so no matter where I position myself, I can't get a view into it. On the bright side, the road does provide a little cover, being on the high ground.

I take a long look at the road, weighing my alternatives. Again angstfull thoughts run through my head. "Did he run away? Or has he tracked back? What if he's tracked so far back that he takes me in the ass?"

The clock is ticking, so I decide to make a run for it and sprint over the road and prone just before the decline into the valley, next to some bushes. I still can't see shit. I scan the area as carefully I can while trying to look for better cover. While the road provide good cover from anything in the valley, it does not provide much cover at all were he above me.

Suddenly I see movement from behind. Just as I've feared the guy has back-tracked further than I expected. He must have sprinted, and I just saw a shadow jump into some pine trees next to the road fork a few hundred metres further West. And sure enough, I soon spot him crawling away from me and into the pines. Or was he coming towards me? I'm sure he must have seen me, otherwise there wouldn't be any need to try to stalk me like that.

The conditions are less than ideal. He's prone and partly in cover while I've got nearly no cover at all. I can't really see if he's moving to me or away from me, but I do see his ALICE pack sticking up from the ground. It's bobbing slightly from the movement he's making. I think he's going slow as to not arouse suspicion.

I have to do something. While moving backwards trying to get better cover in the decline into the valley, I also try to line up a shot. I soon decide it's futile to try to do two things at the same time, so I stop and concentrate soully on aiming.

BAM!

I'm not sure if I hit, but the shot sure made him move much faster. Before I get a chance to think he swirls around and I hear the crack of his gun. "Oh, shit, he just shot at me!" I blurt. In dangerous situations I usually freeze, but this time I remain strangely cool.

I don't hear any bullets landing near me, so I decide to line up another shot. Before I get the chance, another bullet leaves his barrel. "SMACK!" it says. The sound reminds me of a twig being snapped in half.

I've got him in my sights now, staring right into his. I breathe and gently squeese the trigger.

BAM!

Suddenly everything goes quiet. I hurry into cover, but hear no more shots. A few seconds later a kill message pops up on my screen, and I see my humanity has shrunken by about 2000 points. I just can't help myself from clenching my fists and loudly yelling "YESS!" In hindsight, I guess it's ironic to be so elated about loosing humanity... Anyway, I then proceed to jog along the bottom of the ridge towards the trees he was trying to hid in.

While the poor sod did have an ALICE pack, he didn't have much else that I needed. I took some mags, and some of his survival gear, knives, maps, and that sort of stuff. The rest, including his Lee Enfield, I just left there. Soon the flies come and I leave him there to rot.

I forgot to check, but I think the victim was Jareski. This post is for you. It's the most thrilling time I've had in the mod thus far. Thank you!

gg, the thrills of random pvp keep an excitement factor to this game when you're bored of doing the stary/NWA looting.
